Weight Loss Rate?

Let me start by apologizing if this has been asked a million times before but I couldn't find anything in my searches.  I am just a little over six weeks post op (RNY) and my weight loss was fast and furious out of the gate.  I lost just about 45 pounds in the first 5 weeks but this past week I've noticed I've not lost hardly anything at all.  In fact my weight has been the same the last couple of days.  Looking over my nutrition I am consuming a few more calories since I can now handle some soft foods like chili, manwhich, egg salad but still I'm less than 600 calories per day when I look at my food log.  Is there an average weight loss you can expect or is there a time you should start to worry?  Or am I just being too anal by looking at the scale every day?

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Every doctor is different, when I asked mine about the rate, he said 10 to 15 pounds per month.  Back when 'diets' worked for me I could lose 10 pounds a month successfully, but never kept it off.   The difference now is that I have maintained (for the most part) a 100 pound loss from my all time high weight.   I did have some re-gain that I am now winning the battle against.

Remember as in anything you are developing healthy eating habits for life here.   600 calories may be reasonable now, but you may need to be looking at your quantities and upping them to continue the weight loss.   Your body can still perceive the 'starvation' mode and hang on to the calories you are eating.

Here's to continuing succes for you!

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Dr. A told me I should loose approx 5 lbs per week.  Some weeks I did some I didn't some I did more.  He also said I should be consuming 1,000 calories per day.  There are also those darn stall periods that are horrible and really **** you off because you know you are doing everything right and the scales just don't move.  Seemed mine happened at the magic 3 #.  3 months 6 months etc.   Maybe you are in one of those period.

If you have questions call Arlene and talk to her.

Dr Averbach basically uses "10% excess weight lost per month'"

Me for example, Dr A wants 100lbs gone, so, in the first year it works out to ???8??? lbs per month. He said basically for me to look for 10lbs a month. I lost 24lbs in the first 4 or 5 days, I then hit a wall for 4 days where I didn't lose an ounce. Now I am losing about a pound a day.

My research tels me WHEN you hit a wall, work out more, maybe go back to shakes for a while, and get over the wall.

PLEASE if I am wrong someone correct me,, (TIA) I expect to hear from your fingers.

DVR uses a percentage scale based on the amount you need to lose overall and how far out you are. To be honest I never asked what all the numbers were as long as I stayed on target. I think what was already said about avoiding starvation mode is important. Also, you body is going through rapid weight loss. Your body will need to take a rest from time to time to catch up. it is unrealistic to expect the scale to move every single day. You will hit plateaus and the further you become post op, the rate will slow down a bit. The secret is to stay the course. Make sure you are getting in the proper nutrition, stick with your exercise regime and you will continue to be rewarded over time.

I admit I became a slave to the scale and I so wish I did not do that. This weight loss thing is something we want so desperately and we want it all NOW - LOL! So we look to the scale to give us that constant reinforcement that we are succeeding. However, our true success is in the lifestyle change, becoming healthy, changing our old habits. The weight loss, while the most visible, is only a part of it. You will get there. It will continue to happen for you. You are doing great. Don't get discouraged.

Wishing you all the best!
