Non Scale Victories - Personal Goals

I am in the process of making my list of some of my personal goals with weight loss surgery which will all be non-scale victories and in the beginning scale victories at the same time.

I was wondering if anyone else made a goal list - not to do with weight  or number of course and if you'd mind sharing some of your goals.  I understand some might be too personal as a few things crossed my mind that not everyone would be interested in hearing!

I want everything possible on this list so I can check them off ONE by ONE!

My first few on my list are:

1. I want to be comfortable wearing a seatbelt
2. Don't want to have to ask for an extender on the airplane
3. For the swelling in my feet and lower legs to go down
4. To get back into my cute heels and be able to walk in them
5. For my double chin to go away
6. To be able to reach around and scratch my own back
7. To fit into ALL chairs without getting up and taking them with me around my hips! haha
8. To be able to walk from my office to the garage which is on a slight hill and NOT be out of breath
9. To sweat less
10. To shop at target on the regular clothing size side

I know there are lots more just brainstorming now!

What a great idea! I think this should be part of the requirement for having wls.

I didn't do it on paper but in my head

I only had one time that I was on a plane and couldn't get my seatbelt buckled. I was too embarrassed to ask for an extension. It did fit across me and down to where it buckles so I put my arm down and pretended it was buckled.     Not a good idea I suppose!  I also could not put my tray down on the plane.

I also thought about picking up the chair when I got up......especially those white plastic outdoor chairs.

I wanted to get on rides with my grandchildren. That was a biggie. One time I got on a ride with them and the lady that closed the gate apologised that she had to force it closed over my stomach    I was just happy that my GD's didn't notice.

I know I have a lot more too and I am so grateful     that we have this forum where everyone can relate. Where else would I be able to say those things?

One of mine was that I wanted to parasail :  I did this a few days short of my first surgiversary!
Another was that I wanted to fly without a seatbelt extender which I did at 14 months postop.

My two biggest ones are probably the most personal but hey I am not modest and well I am sure on this forum the ladies can relate.

I can't wait for personal care to be a bit easier! Being able to reach things without being a contortionist!  To be able to do everyday things that  people take for granted.

On another note...I know it will be awhile before my tummy is gone, but it would be nice to be able to see certain things for once when looking down.  I think guys have this problem too :)

To be blunt...I have no idea when the last time I saw my own Vajay without a mirror  no laughing matter but I think about this one ALL the time!

I feel better now that I got that off my chest

I made my list as well (they are listed on my profile page), although I have a few that I haven't added.  My husband and I want to get a boat...and I want to be able to get in and out of the boat.  I can't now - not easily anyway.  I also want to fly to Europe comfortably, which I can't do right now - seat belt extender or not.

My biggest goal for after the surgery is to hopefully get rid of my diabetes, or at least the meds.

My biggest fun goal is to take dancing lessons with my husband.  I have a really bad knee (which is actually NOT related to my weight) and my excess weight makes things a little too dangerous to do this.  The doctor said he'd clear me for dancing lessons once I got under 250 pounds.  I'm not tying it to the weightloss though, I just want to go out and shake what my mama gave me!

Hi, as far as goals go, I personally feel that setting too many goals is  overwhelming. What worked for me was, I sat and made a list of all the goals that I could think of(many) and when I thought I was finished, I looked over the list and picked 5 that I felt I could get to first. Each time I met a goal, I picked another goal from my main list. As time goes on I even find myself adding to my main list. Here are some of my goals:  To look in the mirror and like what I see.....To be able to get dressed once, and like it, rather than trying on a million different things... To eat to live, not live to eat!......To start saying yes to activities that I have been saying no to....To buy a bathing suit and WEAR IT! and last but not least,....To admit to having a problem that was bigger than me, asking for help, and for once getting a handle on my weight, instead of my weight having a handle on me!  I hope this helps you get started, remember baby steps, don't bite off more than you can chew!(no pun intended) Good Luck and keep me posted!  Leslie:)
