All My Pre-Op is done!

I went friday for a barium swallow...omg I was gagging.  I thought I was going to throw up all over the x-ray machine.  Has anyone else had this done test?  I've heard of the upper-GI but not barium swallow!

I also did my pre-op blood work and EKG.  Everything was good EXCEPT for the very first time my cholesteral was 201...It was never that high before. 

So on the way to my surgeon are the blessings from my primary care!

However, I still haven't been able to connect with anyone on my side of town for support! My "old" friends have disappeared.  One even de-friended me after I announced to her I was persuing surgery. Not sure it had to do with that but doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.  I hope I have a good roommate in the hospital so I don't have post-surgery loneliness! My family will be in town but not spending all their time at the hospital, rather at my house to look after my fur babies and do some house repairs!  Thanks Dad! 

The Countdown! 
4 days until pre-op liquid diet, 18 days until surgery!  WHEW!  I am starting to feel anxious! 

Congrats on everything.  I dranked the barium a few weeks ago and almost gagged to.  The funny thing is was they had me drink the fizzing type of stuff first then that barium and I was trying my hardest not gag or burp....A burp came out by accident and I was praying that I didn't throw up...My surgery date is on 9/1/09.  I will pray for you to have a speedy recovery!!!

Oh yeah that fizzy stuff was YUCK!  What the heck is that?  I had to drink like 4 bottles of water before I could even eat - I was so nauseated.  Hopefully NEVER again.  They said the liquid you have to drink after surgery isnt as bad.  I wish this day was here already!  How are you feeling counting down the days?

I am mixed with so many emotions right now...for the past two weeks I haven't been sleeping well..I am excited, anxious, nervous and scared all at the same time....How about you?  How are you feeling?  Do you have any other support to get through?

Heelo I have no had surgery and am not real close. I have other stuff to deal with 1st. I am more than willing to be your friend to help you and to listen in any way I can. I live in Crofton but am willing to help and listen. Good luck on everything.

WOOHOO...now you just have to get to surgery. 

It's normal to be excited, nervous, and scared all at the same time!  Don't know of any support groups over your way.  Does your hospital have one that you can go to?  I know most of the ones in MD do and you don't have to be one of their patients to attend.

Sorry about the lack of support on your side of town. At least your family will be there. That will help a lot, I'm sure.

I am sorry that you don't have friends that support you.  To tell you the truth I really didn't have anyone that really understood what I was going through.  All my friends were always saying some type of comment that did not help me in my journey.  I came here for support and thank goodness I found a lot of wonderful people that understood what I was going through and were there for me all the time. 

Glad that your parents will be around.

Know that we are here for you.  I hope you do find a support group in your area. Talk to your doctor they might be able to steer you in the right direction. My doctor has support group meeting for his patients.

I am sorry you had to do that barium swallow yuck.  I had an endoscopy done and I was asleep for that. No pain no memory or anything.

Thanks for all the well wishes.  I am kind of used to being my own "cheerleader".  Plus I'm both my own worst enemy and perfectionist...sort of a competition with myself.  I'm sure I will be fine but I certainly don't forget.

I spoke with a women in my area who had it and she is going to send me some info on the support groups with her Dr. who is right near where I live.  In the weeks to come I do hope to be able to connect with some band people to compare notes. 

Will update soon...probably Fri or Saturday when I'm officially on my liquids! 

I'm trying to get out all my vices in the next few days!
