I'm 5 years in and I found after I had my surgery that I became lactose intolerant.  Never had it before surgery.  I used to drink milk all the time.  Til this day, I cannot have any milk products period.  Thanks goodness for Lactaid products!

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem or if it's just me....

I have not had WLS but from what I understand it's fairly common...

Really?  Thanks.  Good to know I may not be the only one....  I wonder why that happens.  :-)

I have not heard why it happens, only that it's fairly common. Many people lose thier lactose intolerance after a while tho. Shame you've had it for 5 years now.

That's actually one of my biggest fears of having WLS is losing my milk. I MUST start my day with a glass or I feel incomplete. lol

Thanks.  I drank soy milk for a while but I just now switched to lactaid skim milk.  It's not bad at all.  I like it.  :-)

I've heard it's common, yet I don't know anyone to whom that's actually happened.  In fact, I had serious GI issues pre-op - post-op - POOF!! they were gone!!!  It's a miracle, I tell ya!

I have heard that it happens to some people on a permanent basis.  I had problems with just milk early out.  In short...it gave me gas so I had to be careful only to drink it at night.  I made my protein shakes with almond milk and that solved the problem.  Now I find that I don't have any issues and I'm back to making my protein shakes with Skim milk.  Phew!

That's cool.  Honestly, I am so used to not drinking or eatting it anymore that it's ok.  I don't think I'll ever go back to real milk stuff even if I could....  The fear is now embedded in my brain.  LOL!
