am sure everyone knows that I am appealing the insurance companies decission on saying my surgery is an exclusion on my health insurance policy is not a treatment decission but contractual.  Now I have a curious question and really wonder if this maybe a solution to the issue.

I have been in touch with other health insurance companies and have been quoted a price of 300/month premiums and gaurenteed coverage for the wls and all possible problems associated with it.

Now my question is this.

If I keep  my current group health insurance at work and pay one yr in advance for the suplimental coverage ($3600.00) .  Which translates to getting the surgery done for 3600.00 and gaurenteed coverage is it worth it if I can afford to that.

The insurance company has a 30 waiting period for preexisting conditions but after that I am covered for every thing.

Opinions, comments, views are welcome on this topic. Specially those that have fist hand knowelege of insurance industry.

I would talk to your HR department :  If its a company policy to not pay they may have the
same issue no matter what insurance company you choose.

I am confused (not uncommon)

is this a different policy from work or is it a private separate policy in addition to your work policy?

Hi there I am looking into getting one in addition to my current group health insurance at work.  Basically if I can pay the premiums for a yr in advance and they gaurentee me the coverage for 3600.00 it may be worth it.

have you checked with the Insurance gurus on the board?

does it become the secondary payer?

I've heard that private insurance doesnt' cover WLS...

(just asking)

No I haven't checked on the board here. I did speak with the representative and told her exactly what I was looking for. A suplimental that would cover weight loss surgery because my group health insurance has it as an exclusion.
She checked specifically for that and quoted me a price of 3600 for a year and they would cover all if any complications.
Your right most private insurance does not cover wls.  I have not made a decission as of yet.

I am faxing and fed exing appeal tomorrow. and also contacting the California Department of Insurance and have contacted Obesitylaw.

So we will see what happens.
