Anyone have Dr. Schweitzer
Hi all! I had RNY back in Oct of 2000 and am seeking a revision . After tons of research I believe I'm going to go after having the DS procedure. I've spoken to my insurance company already and looks like all systems are a go as long as the dr's paperwork show I meet their criteria, which I don't see why it wouldn't. Anyways, I've been researching the different surgeons in my area (NoVA) which there aren't many that perform DS. One of them who does (Dr. Elinary (sp?)) apparently has some additional fees that he charges his patients and I for one dont exactly have a thousand or so bucks to be dishing out. If someone can say that this info is inaccurate then by all means please let me know. Another dr that I've been trying to read more on who seems to be pretty compitent with the particular procedure is Dr. Michael Schweitzer in Baltimore. There isn't as much info on him as I've been able to find on others so I'm asking for any and all info anyone else might have to offer about him...to include personal opinions and what not. Thanks so much!
I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him. There are plenty of people here that has used him and I am sure they will chime in as soon as they see this message. The weekends are slow here so please give it a little time for some response.
Wishing you all the best with your decision. I have never heard of the other doctor sorry.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Lori, Dr Schweitzer is my doc and he is absolutely WONDERFUL. He is BEYOND competent! He did my band surgery and just revised me to a sleeve (step before the DS) but I have a lower BMI and won't need the switch done. I needed the revision because of a lot of scar tissue that interfered with my band. His website is www.smallscar.com Ask me anything you'd like to know. He is very cut and dry and maybe a bit shy, but he's outstanding in his field.
Hi,
Dr. Schweitzer did my DS in January. I really liked him, he is a great surgeon. However, he now does the DS in two steps. He believes not everyone needs the full DS. I am not sure how he does his revisions though. His policy may not have changed on them. Check out his website that Heather listed above. I would call his office and ask to speak with Christine, she will be able to explain his policy. I have also heard he is pretty good about returning emails, so you may want to try that.
Good luck!
