Stomach Ulcers

I know I have not been on here for a while, but I just wanted to check in and ask a questions.  I have been having severe stomach pain for the last year or so and finally did something about it.  I am almost 2 years since my surgery and they found (2) stomach ulcers last week.  One was pretty small and the other quite large.  Has anyone else had this problem?  They have me on meds now and will redo the test in 6-8 weeks to see if they are healing.  Hopefully they are, otherwise they will have to be surgical removed.  I am alone here??

Hi Gina!  Nice to see you again.

Ulcers, like hernias, are not uncommon after wls - although I don't know why that is.  I've been fortunate to not have any issues like that.  However, Boxer Heather, who's a frequent poster, is going through the ulcer issue, and I'm sure she'll post when she gets a chance!

Here's to the meds working and you being pain (and surgery) free!

Hugs,

Tia

Hi Gina,

Tia's right, I do have at least one ulcer....they didn't scope me, they just put me on meds according to my symptoms.  Currently I'm on Protonix once per day and Carafate 4 times per day.  They have helped and I think I have one more month of refills left.  Hopefully it will have resolved by then.

Hi Gina,

Last year I had that issue and I was prescribed prevacid 1 time a day and carafate every 6 hours. It healed after doing the treatment.
Do you take pepcid daily?  My surgeon has me taking that daily forever he says to keep the ulcurs away.

I hope you get to feeling better soon and I pray you do not need any surgery.

Hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Thanks Ladies.  I hope that the meds will help too.  I hate feeling this way.  I have an appointment tomorrow to follow up with the biopsy reports and to go over some other testing that they did.  Hopefully, this will get better in time.

Thanks again fo rthe info.

I will post again soon.  It is nice to know that I am not alone.

Gina

the ulcers happen more in WLSers for the same reason we are told not to take ibuprofen a lot. It is harsher on the stomach and since the stomach's area is smaller that's being used now, spices, ibuprofen etc. are more likely to hit the same surface again and again.

Hope you get the meds soon and it goes away!
