Ok,
Stopped by Vitamin shop to look around. The guy there recommended "Syntha-6" A little pricey, but what does everyone know about it? Taste?

Nice thing about V-shop, if you don't like something, they will issue store credit.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I have never tried it. I tried a few pricey ones an never really liked the flavors. But I will tell you that I have stuck with Body Fortress super advanced whey protein from walmart and it is only $14.00 at walmart. I prefer the vanilla flavor.

One thing you need to figure out is that whatever the rep if recommending . Is that you need to look at the sugar and carbohydrate content.  Some protein drinks are for people who are trying to build muscle and could handle the extra sugar and calories.

Best of luck finding the right one for you.

Hmmm,

2g sugar, 13g carbs, how bad is that?

That doesn't sound bad... but what flavor?  Will you be mixing it with milk or water?  Add in the amount of calories and carbs of the milk, and then you need to decide...

Many say at first nothing over 10 sugars - if you add in skim milk that has 11g of sugar, you are at 13... but will you drink all 8 ounces at once? probably not at first...

I think it will be okay, but it all comes down to personal preferences...  I choose to focus my goals on protein and calories once I got past the first six weeks and realized I don't dump on fat and sugar... I am relying on good judgement and the calorie counts to keep fat and sugar in check...  My daily goal is 65+ grams of protein and approximately 1000 calories (no less than 900 and more than 1100...)  For me on the plan I set up with Arlene and Dr. A this means 5 meals a day with approx 200 calories and more than 15g of protein...

Some days I don't get in all 5 meals - then I recalculate what I did do near bedtime and eat a protein bar... Since I was 10 days out, I gave up the protein shakes - but plan to do on tonight since I bought new samples from Bariatric Fusion and want to try Cinnamon Bun - plus I have not done so well on eating today...  (Junk at a quarter auction... taco no shell, and a slice of pizza with only about a 1/3 of the crust made up two of those 5 meals...)

Good luck deciding what is right for you... we will be here to give advice every step of your journey...

Hi Tom,

The carbs are a bit high because once you add milk you have to factor in the amount of carbs the milk has too.  Now, with my doctor the most grams of sugar that i was told I to have was 6 at each meal.  In the very beginning most RNY patients can not drink an 8 oz drink quickly.  I remember it would take me about an hour to an hour and half.  So the amount of gram sugars that the milk has it about 12 grams per serving. The carbs in milk is 11.4 so the lower the carbs in the protein powder the better it is for you.

If you are planning to use that protein powder with water then you are good to go.
