Question for Dr Averbachs patients

Did you have to do a liquid diet? I have my preop one week prior to surgery, and have heard nothing about a liquid diet, YET

Hi Tom,

I was operated on December of last year had VSG and I was not required to go on a liquid diet.

I had surgery March 18th and did have to do a two week liquid diet - there were about 20 of us in the preop class - RNY, Lapband and VSG and we all had to do the liquid diet... I would call the office and talk to Cathy Carr his surgical nurse, she will know what you have to do!

Dr. A didn't make me do a liquid diet.  I asked about it and Cathy said if he didn't say anything to you then you don't need to do one.

I understand, some are to do the liquid diet, others, not.  He told me it was important to lose as much weight as I can, prior to the surgery, and was told to do the liquid diet, 2 wks. prior.  I had already made the decision to do everything I was expected to do, to be successful, with this.  Surg was 6/16, and all is going fine!  Good luck and remember, do whatever he tells you to, as he does know best.

Hey Tom I go in on Monday , I only have a 2day liquid diet and thats for preop cleansing dont sweat it some dont.

I did not have to a do a liquid diet, but I chose to do a 3 day liquid diet on my own..dr. a is cool! 

I had RNY in May 2009 and did NOT have to do a liquid diet.  If Dr. A feels your liver needs shrinking, then I believe he will recommend a pre-op liquid diet.  Otherwise, no liquid diet.

Thanks everyone, I guess he will give me what ever instruction on the 3rd when I see him. It my also be I am "only" 37BMI.

Dr. A. did my labband surgery in April of '08. No pre-op liquid diet for me.
