Welcome,
Yes this is a life change, but I have decided it is well worth it for me. Taking vitamins and B12 shots are a small thing to me. I have two young daughters, and I am doing it for them as much as for me.
There are two huge things in the plus colume, weight loss for one, getting to live on crab cakes and fish is the other. At only 1/4 cup at a time,, I can afford it!!

A little bad news for you though, I doubt if you can get everything done before your insureance runs out. My journey has been very quick, but I had exhausted all other optinions. I had already done my supervised 6 month diet, I had a primary doc that was onboard, my endo was on board, I had a sleep study years ago that proved I had sleep apnea, I have been a type2 diabetic for 12 years or so, ect ect ect.  I decided May 14th I was doing WLS, and my date is 8-10. I was approved first submital.  So it took 4 months to get a surgery date. I do urge you to persue it though, you never know.

Keep at it, keep coming here, there are so many good people here.

Hi Melissa, I haven't had surgery yet so I can't chime in on that, but wanted to say welcome to the Maryland board!

I made some phone calls yesterday and come to find out my new health insurance will not cover the surgery...however I can stay on Cobra (BC/BS of NY****il July 2010 and then pickup the open enrollment of the other health insurance in 2010.  One hurdle passed!

I have to make appointments for the NUT and Psyc this week.  I am nervous about the Psyc exam for some reason.  Does anyone have any info or tips?

Also, what do you guys do when people make fun of you for "taking the easy way out" for getting surgery.  I try to explain this surgery is a mere staple (no pun intended) and you are still to follow a strict diet, excersize and have will power to suceed but I still get heavy opposition.

My psych was no problem, I have been seeing the same theripyst for a year now because of PTSD from an accident, so she already knew me, but the questions were basically did you understand the entire process of WLS, were you "stable" (I passed that one, so anyone can) blah blah blah. I wouldn't worry about it. The 6month diet is more of a worry than the psych. Go for the COBRA and get the WLS!
