Totally DIfferent Direction
I want to go in a totally differnt direction today.
For the sake if something different and getting various opinions. ( this is how I work some things).
I am 51 yrs old and want to return to school and finish a college degree. I have spent the better part of 25 yrs trying to obtain this. Different things got in the way ie pregnancy, divorce, and burn out from working 2 jobs and going to school at the same time. My question is: Since I already have 48 college credits would it make more sense to go for a bachelors degree instead of an associates? Is it silly at this time in my life to try to finish and should I just be happy with what education I have.
I have much work experience in a variety of fields. My favorite is health care, and patient advocacy. I am a certified in medical billing and coding, I have worked with diabled patients in an institution as well as education. I would like to finish something. But is it too late? Am I being silly, Will it be worth it financially if I am able to do this?
Currently I working in a call center and handle
enrollment for Medicare advantage plans and a few calls each day for practices in another state.
I do not find this very stimulating or rewarding but the pay is ok and I do have benefits. I am going on my 2nd aniversary in November.
Comments and opinions are welcome
I know this is not a weight loss issue but I respect so many here I thought I would through it out there anyway.

Lori,
You are not being silly. Girl set your goal and go for it! Run do not walk!!!!
Go for the BA and never look back. My husband just got BA in Business last August he is 45. I am working on going back to school and my passion is labor & delivery. I plan on becoming a Physician Assistant. That is my goal and I know that I will achieve it.
Wishing you nothing but success!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Lori - I'm 36. I got my Bachelors Degree after children, divorce, etc. It took me leaving my 1st husband to get to where I am nowadays. My first husband used to tell me I was dumb as **** and worthless for anything. Long story short, I started college just to prove him wrong in 2000. I started going part time, but then in 2003, I transferred to another college and started going full time. I got my Bachelors in 2007, then jumped right into the MBA program. I expect to receive my MBA next May.
I don't regret one minute of being in school, actually, I enjoyed and still do enjoy the challenges. I am presently working two jobs and taking one class this summer, but come fall, I'm taking 3 classes while working a reduced schedule on my part time job - and my usual during the week job.
We've seen articles about women in their 50s and up getting degrees, so I want to say it's never too late, and can certainly be rewarding.
Depending on your personality, I would go straight for the Bachelors degree. Some friends that I know, they will stop trying once they've reached a milestone. My best friend got her AA and hasn't been back to school since.
Lotsa luck on your education!

Lori, I feel very strongly that there is no such thing as too much education.. I find it a admirable quality for anyone who continues to better themselves as they go through life. You need to do what makes you happy. It seems like you have your hands in a lot of wonderful careers. I wish you luck on whatever you decide. Leslie:)
