Carol -

It's all good!!  I'm not sure how much of a response you'll get here, though, so you might want to check out the African American forum that OH has - you might get the answer more quickly there.

Hi Carol,

I lost alot of hair but I was taking Biotin 2,000 mcg daily and by the time I reached 6 month post op it slowed down consideralby.  I still take biotin daily.  I buy at walmart.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Hi Cira, How soon can you start taking Biotin?   What form is it in (pills/liquid)?  Do i have to have my PCP write me a prescription?

What does it do, grow new hair, or just stop breakage??

I really don't know what Biotin is -- uhh?

Thank you.

Biotin is a suppliment.  It is a pill and is sold over the counter.  You don't need a perscriiption.  Although I am caucasian, I lost a lot of hair (not from breakage) ~ it actually fell out in clumps, like I was going through chemo.  I think it is unavoidable for some people.  When I started taking the biotin, I started seeing new growth.  I don't think it actually prevented my hair from falling out, but it promoted new hair growth.

Hopefully you won't have to go through this.  I've talked to some people that have never had this problem at all.

Carol, No disrespect at all. You are just asking a question. I also think Tia had a good idea and I think you will find many willing to share their experience. I wish I could help you but I also worry about the same thing even though I am caucasian. Good luck.

Hi. I'am a GERMAN AMERICAN ( white nordic) does that count for the hair loss question?  Looked down at my shower drain and picked up a large glob.  Got the mirror and looked at the back of my head.  Ok there and I'am told it will come back.
Hope you get some AFRICAN AMERICAN or ITALIAN AMERICAN or IRISH AMERICAN to respond

As a German American do you put a lot of chemicals on your hair and process it?  is it VERY VERY DRY?  does it break off even when you don't have WLS?

I am not AA but I understood WHY the question was phrased the way it was and took NO OFFENSE at all.
