I DID NOT LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT DURING MY SIX MONTHS SUPERVISED VISIT BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID I MIGHT NOT GET APPROVED BY INS. IF I LOST TOO MUCH WEIGHT.

I THOUGHT AFTER GETTING APPROVAL DVR WOULD PUT ME ON THE 2 WEEK LIQUID DIET B4 SURGERY AND I THOUGHT I WOULD LOSE ANYTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE LOST DURING THAT TIME.

HE SAID HE DOES NOT PUT PEOPLE ON THE 2 WEEK LIQUID DIET.

OKAY, NOW, MY QUESTION IS IF I DON'T LOSE, WILL I BE IN DANGER OF MY LIVER BEING TOO LARGE??????????

I WEIGH 240 AND MY BMI IS 42.

DID ANYONE ELSE NOT LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT B4 SURGERY???

SHOULD I JUST DO SOME TYPE OF LIQUID DIET ON MY OWN, ???

Yeah, thank God DVR didn't do the 2 week liquid diet - I think I would've lost my mind!!!!

I think your liver will be fine, and he must, also.  They'll double check your last round of bloodwork just to be sure.  Don't sweat it.

You WILL have to do a really fun colonic cleanse the day before surgery and only be on liquids then.

DVR's a master; I had a lot of scar tissue from an old gallbladder removal and he had to take his time, but he was still able to do mine lap.

I think I lost about 10 pounds before surgery.

Again, breathe!!!!

i'm about 5'3" if i wear heels.  I weigh about 250 my BMI is about 46
I lost 4 pounds yesterday (the month before i stayed the same the month before that I gained 4 and the month before that I gained 6) so I had a net GAIN of 6 pounds...

I asked DVR yesterday about a liquid diet. and he does it about a day or two before the surgery AND you do a partial colon cleanse similar but not as intensive as a colonoscopy cleanse.   I'm sure with his experience and his record if he needed us on a liquid diet he would do so.

Never have I trusted a doctor as much as I trust him.

I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW THAT I'VE HEARD FROM YOU ALL ON THAT SUBJECT.

AND I'M SURE YOU ARE ALL RIGHT ABOUT DVR AND PUTTING US ON A LIQUID DIET IF HE FELT IT WERE NECESSARY.

YEAH, HE DID TELL ME THAT I WOULD BE ON ALL LIQUIDS AND THE COLON PREP THE DAY B4.

I WAS EMBARRASSED TO POST THIS QUEST.  BECUZ I SEE SO MANY PEOPLE LOSING SO MUCH WEIGHT B4 THEIR SURGERY!!!

THANKS,

The best piece of advice, but the hardest to swallow, is to not compare yourself to anyone else.  Pre-op, post-op, etc.  It's the surest way of driving yourself crazy quickly!  We're all different, our surgeons have different criteria, and sometimes, the criteria changes upon the needs of the patients.

Don't sweat it.  Some lose, some don't, and some even gain.  They DO understand that if we could do it on our own, we wouldn't NEED wls, but still, they have their guidelines.

With that, have a great weekend!

don't be embarrassed to post ANY questions here.

I didn't lose anything before my surgery. I've lost about a 105 lbs and my liver seems to be dealing fine with it :)

Carol (my maiden name is Moore by the way),

I was 255 when I started this journey.  I lost 9 lbs initially during my 6-month medically supervised "diet" and then gained 5 back.  My BMI was 43.? and I did not have to do a pre-op diet either.  I guess my doc has done enough to know how to get around it during surgery...mine was laproscopic.  My doc didn't even require a colon cleanse the day before either.

Hope that helps,
Heather

Hi Carol,

DVR does not require a liquid diet for his patients.  You don't need to do anything different than what your doctor tells you.  All I had to do was being on a liquid diet the day before my surgery date and the wonderful bowel prep.  By fleets phospho soda.. It will keep you busy that day. lol

You will do great and you will be in excellent hands.

Wishing you all the best.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
