how does one get back on track?

Aug 8, 2006 I had my surgery. I was 373. The first 6 months were great. i got down to 265.. then i lost it... I started eating wrong. I maintained that loss until this past jan when I started gaining again. I'm back up to 294. I've not passed the 300 mark again. I dont want to go there..

But, how do i stop making bad decisions?  I eat all day. I dont overeat most of the time, I jsut eat as soon as my stomach feels empty. and i'm not even hungry.

Tomorrow (thurs) I have an appt with my surgeons team, ie nutritionist, behavorial therapist, etc etc... but I dunno if that's gonna help. Bascially it's up to me. But I'm at a loss as to how to develop the discipline I need to get back on track.

*sigh*

Hi there (((Hugs)))) Im sorry to hear you fell off track honey but YOU CAN GET BACK ON TRACK!!!! Have you tried the 5 day pouch test? You have to remember you STILL HAVE YOUR TOOL! ;o) WORK THAT TOOL HONEY! You can and WILL do it and get that weight back off. It may not be as easy now but that is okay.....................walking 30 min 3-5 times a week is a GREAT start and staying away from high fats and sugars too. Replace the bad habits.........when I want something junk food like I do one of three things...........EAT FRUIT instead and it does help the craving.........Brush my teeth because everytime I do that I am no longer hungry or suck on a sugar free mint or tic tac etc. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! (((((Hugs))))))))) Good luck at the Dox   ;o)

Honestly Jilly took the words right outta my mouth! You still have your tool and you CAN get back on track! I would def say try the 5 day pouch test. I have done it before when I felt I had let to many evil carbs into my daily plan. It really helps cut those carb and sugar cravings. Also I would say go back to basics. No drinking 30 mins before or after, protein first, veggies second.

I use the fruit trick when I am craving sugar as well. I am also always popping a S/F mint in my mouth if I get hungry (it totally works)

Also for me personally exercise helps keep me on track. The more intense I exercise the less my body craves the bad foods and I think "well heck I just didn't bust my butt in that workout to throw it away now" If exercising isn't your thing believe me honey I TOTALLY understand but as Jilly suggested walking 30 mins 3-5 times a week is a great start and I can guarantee you ll see results by adding that into your plan.

Also support groups help me. I know that Nicole runs one in your area. I know staying connected with my WLS friends keeps me driven and focused. In fact several of them Iknow would consider my best friends because they are such a big part of my life now. They help keep me on track, focused and driven.

Good luck!!

Lisa, I think you have done well and sometimes I think we all fall back into our old ways. I am sure that you can back on track. I am 300lbs and I want to leave there to and not go back. I have not done any surgery due to obstacles that have been in my way. I don't know if we ever knew when we were full after we start eating. Sometimes I think we eat just to eat. I do hope that you can get some support be it here or from your Doc. Take care and go easy on yourself.  If not you will drive yourself crazy..

Lisa I hear you.  And I understand.

I need to ask a few questions before I can offer my pre-op advice.   I have not had surgery yet but I do understand the overeating issue as I rarely eat due to hunger.

can you give me an idea of what types of food you are eating?

Okay, i'm a little late getting on this train, but I think you have been given great advice.  Just remember the intesity that you had when you first decided to get the surgery and how you dedicated yourself to follow the rules and the want that you had to be thinner.  Realize that you can do this!  Yes, it may be difficult, but you can acomplish your goal.  Stick to it and don't give up!

Lisa -

I'm sharing the train with you, honey.  Let's get together after I get back from the beach on July 25!  We're strong women, we can DO this!

In the interim, take what you can from meeting with the professionals, they just might be able to help!

Hugs,

Tia

thanks everyone for the replies.

Today I met with the bariatric team of my surgeon and we made up a game plan.  my problem is primiarily in the evening when i'm at home. I'm ok for the most part during the day.

I just mindless eat in the evening until bedtime.  So i'll follow the plan and see what happens.
Also, i'm going to go to the support group meeting my surgeon has next week.... that should help.

anyways.. ya'll give some good ideas.. thanks. again. :)
