ok I drink coffee on the way to work
I get to work I drink crystal light
so if i'm drinking an atkins shake for breakfast does that still count as drinking? or should i wait (as a practice for when I EAT breakfast)

I'm working on the NOT eating and drinking at the same time issue.  going to be hard for me at first I am sure.

so if i drink one bottle of water and wait 30 minutes then I eat and wait 30 minutes I can't see how I will get enough fluids in...

Nessa I think every surgeon may have different suggestions for this. My surgeon said that if I am using a shake as a meal replacement then to wait the 30 mins before and after.

However I am at the point now where I dont wait 30 mins before each meal.  I only wait 30 mins (sometimes more) afterward so getting fluids in is much easier.

I dont ever use shakes as meals anymore, I really only use them to supplement my protein and calorie levels. I do one post workout and usually early in the morning so because of that I dont do the 30/30 rule.

When I was in the full liquid phase (right after I came home from surgery) they told me to disregard the 30/30 rule untill I got to the pureed phase because at that point you are ONLY putting fluids in your body and at that point that is the most important thing because you will find it hard even to get a sip in. So getting in as much fluids as possible was they key.

Then when I advanced to pureed I went to the 30/30 rule and yes I waited 30 before and after if I did a protein shake. I hope that makes some sort of sense.
