Damn capitalism is infiltrationg summer street festivals!!!
Any of us who live in Baltimore knows we are all about festivals in the summer. There is the Hon Fest (celebrating general B-more wonkiness), Latino Fest, the African American Heritage Festival, the Greek Festival, the Pigtown festival (Pigtown is the name of my neighborhood).
This year the trend seems to be to charge admission to a damn street festival!!! Is it that bad? Are we that broke??? Man, what happened to cheap summer fun and free community events????
Somehow this has to be O'Malleys fault...or Sheila Dixon. I need a scapegoat!!!
RNY Gastric Bypass 1-8-08 350/327/200 (HW/SW/CW). I spend most of my time playing with my food over at Bariatric Foodie - check me out!
And where does the $$$$ go. Rent-a-cops??, users fees??,city permits??, porta-johns???or IN SOMEBODYS POCKET in the name of organizer, consultant, event manager HMMMMMMMM.
I can remember when county fairs were free, trade shows would'nt even think of charging admission and water and air was free. Where does the $$$$ go?

the african american heritage festival is charging $5. yeah i was upset too. i felt like the whole idea was to bring the community together and so many organizations passed out needed info. now you have to pay for the info. it sucks. no other city sponsored festival is charging admission so far. it reeks. and lets not mention the $40 tickets for the concerts being sold by ticketmaster.
i dont see how in the Hdouble LL they can do that i mean how can they if you live on the street ? Just another way for Baltimore to have more fights and arguments why cant they leave us alone , this is what Baltimore is all about the dancing in the streets , most festival contribute to charity so what the heck?
