Brooklyn Park?
A friend of mine (some of you have met her already - Amy if you went on the NY trip) with her daughter are planning to move to Brooklyn Park in a couple weeks.
Anyone have any pointers as to what areas to stay away from? Someone told her that there is gang activity in Brooklyn Park, and she's concerned for their safety.

I don't know anything about the area at all, but tell her to check this website for crime statistics, etc.

Keep in mind that even if you don't SEE it, there could still be underground gang activity.

I've never lived there, and don't know anyone who currently does, but my best advice would be the further away from the Baltimore City line you are, the safer it is. The closer you are to the city line, the worse it is.
We eat at a great Mexican place in Brooklyn Park, called El Salto. Little local place, nothing fancy, but great food and safe area for the most part. But really, I wouldn't want to be walking around there alone after dark.
Too bad she couldn't get a place in the northern section of Glen Burnie that backs up to Brooklyn Park. That'd probably be somewhat safer for her and her daughter.

I see. I guess even a middle school in Brooklyn Park is better than any city middle school.
I have a friend who just finished his first year of teaching English in a city middle school. And boy oh boy, the stories I've heard about those kids...I'd go broke and get my kid in a private school if I absolutely HAD to live in the city. Fights, drugs, weapons, pandemonium.... it's just insane.

LOL sorry I forgot about updating you!
Here are the cliff's notes, as not to hijack this thread:
We are doing a basic 2-tier cake.
Top tier will be red velvet and the bottom, larger tier will be amaretto. Apparently, those are their two most popular flavors.
Any fun stuff you want to add in terms of a design, it'll cost "$1.50 more per slice" or "oh that's $3.00 more per slice." F that!
So our's will be simple and I will provide them with ribbon to wrap around the bottom of each tier to add color. I may or may not send some of my flowers to them... we can probably decorate with flowers just fine once the cake is at the reception site (in-law's back yard).

I got the measurement of the diameter of the top tier of my cake and then my florist made a topper for it that matched my bouquets. It was only like $20. I went to Hilton Flower Shop, and even though the shop itself is a little shabby looking, they did an awesome job, and I would highly reccomend them. They are just up the street from Sugarbakers, at 906 Fredrick Rd.
I dont live there but have heard alot of bad stuff about that area. Just be careful where you go until you know more about the area. We also eat at the Mexican place too but I dont want to be walking around out there either. I guess gangs can be any where just look at beautiful downtown Crofton where I live...
