Drain's out but OMG!!!

I had the drain removed this morning and although it gave me no more pain being in other than a clothing annoyance, coming out was HORRIFIC!  It must have started to adhere to my insides.  The NP told me to take a deep breath and then like a friggin RIPCORD she pulled out about 12" of tubing.  HFS!  It took me about 20 minutes to recover from the pain and lightheadedness I got from it.  I'm okay now and all the tummy soreness seems to be better.  I had gotten really sore yesterday and last night.  I think the drain knew it was time to come out.  Now if this sciatica would just STOP!  Big thanks to Melissa L for taking me to Bayview and helping me with the girls this morning!

OMG Heather I am so with you. Just had mine taken out too and it was the weirdest thing, like someone poking at my insides. I had a lot of cramping and I had to make him stop so I could catch my breath. I had a fair amount of cramping afterward too.  Hope you make a quick recovery.

Wow Mellie, I've actually never heard of a bandster getting a drain!  But regardless, if I never have another drain my entire life it would be TOO SOON! LOL  Horrible, just horrible.

O M G!!!  Yikes!!!  I guess it's different for everyone, because mine didn't hurt at all coming out - but it hurt like a mofo when he pulled the adhesive off and it ripped my skin off!!!!

YEESH!!!  I don't envy you that part at all!!!

So are you on liquids, mushies, etc??

Well I guess you can't have it BOTH ways right?  LOL  I'm on full liquids for a week, but my question is do I count that from the day of surgery (meaning I could be on mushies today) or do I count from the day I actually GOT fluids which wasn't until two days after surgery.  And WHEN was cottage cheese considered a FULL liquid?  Because apparently it is NOW!  Wasn't when I was banded in '06.  I think I'm going to start with mushies at this point.  I've tolerated everything well so far.  I have absolutely NO appetite and don't even think about food, not sure if that will change or not, but when they remove part of the stomach the part that produces ghrelin is removed - that's the hunger hormone.

Heather,

That's the exact same way mine came out and the exact same feeling.  I couldn't catch my breath for a minute or so either.  I don't know why they insist on ripping it out!!!

Sorry!

Hey Heather :)  I guess it's better that they DO pull it out all at once; like a band-aid because having that sensation more than once is WAY too much for me!

Pardon my ignorance, but does everyone have a drain put in? This is the first I've read about it (not on here much so far). What is the drain for?

Nope, not everyone gets a drain, but I believe that more do than not, especially with surgeries other than Lap-Band.
