Well that felt weird

Went to see the surgeon today for followup. He pulled the drain out. That. Felt. Weird. And crampy, omg I was so glad when it was over. Marty couldn****ch but my son held my hand and watched the whole thing. Of course it did not help to hear him saying ewwww gross and Dr. Singh telling me I could say some bad words if I wanted.

So anyway, he told me he has NEVER in his practice seen anything like what I had. He even reported it to the Lap-Band company to find out if there are any other known cases. He said it was like I was allergic or my body just rejected the silicone in the band. He cultured everything and it came back negative so thats good. He also said I had adhesions from it after only the 3 weeks so my stomach is basically left in the shape of having the band on it, just with no band. So he said I might actually get restriction for a while from it and then again it might grow out, he doesnt know. He said he will follow me up in about year and take another look at it to see how everything healed back. For now no heavy lifting for 6-8 weeks, rest, relax, take it easy and gradually start eating food again. He said never get another band again and asked if I was interested in anything else. I told him no im only interested in healing right now.

On another note Marty had his 6 week followup and he is doing really good, down 5 pounds since his last visit and still getting restriction with no fill so he left him alone and told him to let him know if he needs one. The next visit he has to bring a food journal and make sure hes getting 1000 calories.

Mellie, I am so sorry your body couldn't tolerate the band.  It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.  I hope you heal up well and, should you decide later on to consider RNY or VSG, I hope it goes well for you.

Girl, you have just been through it!!!  I am so sorry about all of this.  Just do what you need to do to recover and heal.

Anything you need, give a yell, okay?  And DON'T disappear from here.  I've kinda gotten used to you, ya know???  LOL!!!

Kudos to Marty, by the way!

Mellie,

I just wanted to add my sympathies to everything you have been through. I hope the healing is all good from here on out. I agree with the others, whether or not you ever decide to have any further surgery, you are still one of us and are always welcome here.

Best Wishes,

Debbie
