There's nothing like 'em.  I even like going to that little tiny store off of Wilkens Avenue.  Makes me feel like I'm in a little boutique.

What in the world is "whippage" from your food post?

WELCOME TO THE MARYLAND BOARD!!!  We obviously were separated at birth, hence the Rheb's buttercream comments.  A Christmas tradition in our family, too!!!!  There's no other like it!

Can I tell you something, though?  I CAN eat them now, but rather than the whole pound I could knock out post-op, I ask Mom to get me six of them, and I make them last.  And they taste even better now, because I'm focusing on quality, rather than quantity.  Of course, I didn't do them my first post-op Christmas, but yes, I do them now.  Again, we're only talking a Christmas tradition.

Anyway, you'll find lots of support here and hopefully make some good friends.  I'd be lost without this board.  They ARE my family.

So, keep us posted and let us know if there's anything we can do to ease your mind about surgery, post-op life, etc.

Hugs,

Tia

Hi Ladies!  Wow, whoda thought I'd get such a response on the Rheb's!  But, LOL, it truly is the best chocolate EVER, and I have had all of the 'good stuff' to compare it to - from the REAL Ghiardellis' in SanFran to REAL fine Swiss chocolate in Switzerland, to Paris, Germany, you name it.  Rheb's kicks them ALL in the butt!!!  I am still nibbling on a box of sherbet eggs I got this Easter, LOL!  I have two left; I ration them 1 per week, usually.  Heartening to hear I **MIGHT** still be able to eat a nibble next Easter - or maybe Christmas 2010!

I totally agree, when it comes to chocolate, I'll take quality over quantity ANYTIME - pre-op, post-op, anytime!  They actually make sugar free candy too - I will have to try that next time I'm there - and the Wilken's Ave shop is the only place to go now - they closed the stall at Lexington Market.  I am still on their mailing list, LOL and just got an email saying they are on vacation until July 17 or something, but that they will begin taking Christmas orders on Aug 3!  Gotta love it!

Back in my Atkins days I remember being quite fond of LowCarb - Sugar Alcohol PureDeLite bars - but I can't find them anymore....the Hershey's SF sends me running for the WC, it is a different blah-blah-blah-itol than the PureDeLite was. Ah well.  Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones who loses her sweet tooth with the surgery - that would be a WHOLE lot better than not being able to eat chicken anymore, which has happened to my girlfiriend at work - THAT sucks!!

Ah well, on we go.  Just got my psych do-over appt for Jul 6, and I have my follow up at GBMC on Jul 14.  I'm flying out of town for a few days in mid-September, so alas, I think I'm looking at early Oct for the surgery after all....we shall see.   My schedule is insane - I don't blame any of the delay on the docs or on Kaiser!!

Cheerios, all!

Mare:

I received the same vacation e-mail.  LOL!!  I can't do "real sugar.  Had a 1/2 a chocolate chip cookie once and it almost sent me into a comma.  Literally, I was laid out on the couch for about 2 hours.
Best of luck on your journey!

Hate to disappoint you - while Rheb's CARRIES s/f chocolates, ONLY the chocolate covered nuts and nut bark are RHEB'S.  The butter creams and all of the other s/f chocolates are Asher brand.  I "argued" about that with someone on here several years ago, and because I was dying to know for myself, and crossing my fingers that Rheb's had actually stepped into the s/f world, I called the Wilkens Avenue shop, only to discover the Asher's brand is there.  Asher makes a LOT of s/f chocolates, and that's what you'll find in MOST Baltimore candy stores.

See?  We ARE the most helpful people in the world!!!  LOL!!!

Hi Tia - Ah, thankie thankie for the clarification.  I will be at the shop in late Nov/early Dec for Christmas shopping for some of my family and friends but that will be much too close post-op for samples, LOL - so maybe next Easter, when I again shop for family and friends, I will try a sample and see what happens!  Asher, huh?  Funny, I never heard of that brand or company at all.  Do you know what blah-blah-blah-itol they use?  Whatever one it is in the Hershey's SF is the stuff  I can't tolerate even now.

Sorry, Mare, but I don't know what sugar alcohol Asher's uses, but I really don't care for their chocolates.  Wockenfuss also carries Asher's, as does Glauber's, I think.

You might find after wls that you're even more sensitive to sugar alcohols, it varies with the person.  I'm better off with a little bit of the real stuff as opposed to more sugar alcohols.

I like to say that 4 mini s/f Peppermint Patties are the best tasting laxative out there!!!!

Hi again, just thought of another question....did any of you have spouses or sig others who did not want you to have the surgery?  Either out of fear for your safety, or some other reason (you'll get thin and leave me, I love you just the way you are, you name it..) ?? So far my hubby is not on board with this whole thing...some of all of the above....any ideas to swing him over?

Cheerios!
