DS with Kaiser?

Hi Everyone...

Has anyone had any luck in getting Kaiser to approve them for DS instead of the RNY?

I just found out today that I am coverage for WLS, but the information I have so far only says Gastric Bypass/Banding/Weight Loss Surgery.

I have heard stories of people in CA having to appeal and write letters to be able to get the DS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not too many DS folks here on the Maryland Board.  You might want to post on the DS board and see if you get a better response.

I don't have Kaiser, but I did have the DS.  My suggestion would be to either call Kaiser and see what they can tell you or to check with the DS surgeons in Maryland and see if they have had any luck with Kaiser..

As far as DS surgeons go, Vanguri does it one step, Schwietzer does it two step.
I can't find any in the Baltimore area.

Hi Tom,

Do you have Kaiser?  I have an appt with my PCP tomorrow to try and get my referrel to get into their program.  I hope he agrees... I haven't seen him much since I just got Kaiser not too long ago.

I did find Dr. Schwietzer and Vanguri online.  My BMI is right at about 40.5 so I hope they would be okay with it.

I have decided that I want DS and I won't let Kaiser or anyone tell me otherwise... It's my choice!  If I can't get them to do it, I have decided on Dr. Ungson in Mexico.
