Need Some Advice.........
Angela,
I'm happy to see you, but sorry to hear you're feeling this way. Keep in mind that you're only ONE MONTH out - your body is still healing, it's trying to play catch up, and stalls ARE only temporary. Because you've had RNY, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for you to NOT lose weight.
Can you post what you have been eating? How about what you like? I can give you lots of ideas, and I'm sure others will be happy to chime in.
Also, depression and/or varying emotions is normal after wls. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, so when you lose weight rapidly, all those hormones flood your blood stream - hence, you can have mood swings, irritability, depression, etc. It's not pleasant, but everything you're going through is normal.
You need to try your best to adhere to the doctor's guidelines.
Hang in there - the weight WILL come off.
Hugs,
Tia
My normal eating is as follows:
7am- take liquid muti vitamin
8am- protein shake approx 4oz

****more water.....around 20oz****
normally no afternoon snack
6pm- half a can of tuna with light mayo or if I am not feeling well 3 bites of mashed potatoes
****If I want a late snack.....sugar free popcicle**** NOT TOO OFTEN
****more water.....keep it by my bed and drin****il I go to sleep and sometime wake up in the middle of the night and drink****
Okay, in my not-professional opinion, you are NOT getting in enough protein. When do you see DVR again? I'm sure he and his nurse are going to tell you to up the protein. The most important thing for you to do as a new post-op, is to follow their guidelines.
I would say you also need to up your fluids, but since you're only a month out, I know it's hard. As time goes on, you'll be able to drink and eat more easily. It takes a while, though, because like I said, your body is still healing, etc.
While on mushies, here are suggestions: cottage cheese, Greek yogurt ( you can sweeten with Splenda and add s/f jam), refried beans and cheese topped with Greek yogurt (unsweetened, it tastes like sour cream), egg salad, shrimp salad, chicken salad (you can puree ANYTHING!), and ricotta cheese (again, you can sweeten it or make it savory). ALWAYS look for the protein content first in whatever you're eating.
Even though you may not feel well, 3 bites of mashed potatoes isn't doing anything for you. I know a lot of shakes are nasty, I personally like the EAS Advant Edge ready to drink shakes. I'm partial to the Dark Chocolate, which I pour in my coffee; the same with the French Vanilla. It's not thick like a lot of shakes, and since it's RTD, it's not foamy. There's also clear Isopure Protein drinks (available at GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe). Some of their flavors aren't too bad, and you can always add a Crystal Light packet to it.
You need to get that protein and those fluids in!!!
Hope this helps,
Tia
I am sorry you are depressed. dumping a lot of weight releases a lot of hormones (read estrogen) into your system, that hormonal imbalance contributes to the depression
stalls happen all the time with or without surgey. it's your body's way of adjusting. sounds perfectly normal to me.
i hope that the more experienced members of our board can help you more.
I dont know if you would want it or not, but a lady from the Delaware board sent me an efile that has over 200 recipes for protein shakes......if you want it, and it sounds like you could use it, PM your email addy & I will send it over to ya!
I hope all gets better!!!!!!

I was a really slow loser too. We all lose at different rates, but one thing I found out is that I wasn't eating enough. I know it sounds crazy, but if you are not getting enough food, your body goes into starvation mode and it holds on to everything that you consume. I'm with Tia, try upping the protein. Try some hot or warm soups. And please make sure that you are getting in your vitamins!!!
Hope this helps!
