O/T Sisters Dog

Just got a cell call from my sister :  her 6 year old dog may have cancer again.  They
have already gone thru two rounds of chemo -  She's so upset I could hardly understand
what she was saying .  They are running test to be sure.

please pray that they will make a humane decision.  I don't think the poor
dog could physically take another round of chemo.  I told her she needs to calm
down and talk to her husband and mentally prepare themselves and my 10 year
old niece that the time may come very soon to put her to sleep.

Thanks  all :  I needed to put this out there.  When is enough enough?

In my opinion.... when the animal's quality of life is affected and/or the animal is in pain that will not let up.

~hugs~

I know this is a very difficult decision for pet owners. We don't want our beloved pets to suffer, but we also can't let them go without fighting one more time.  Hopefully your sister and her husband will look into their hearts and into the dogs eyes and see the right thing to do.

Prayers comin' up Darla!!  Having been through this twice in the past 9 months, I know what a hard decision it is.  Hopefully their vet can help them to make the right decision in what is right for the dog!!!

Awww!!  I agree, the hardest, but the most selfless thing to do.

I don't know that you CAN be prepared.  You just have to.

Thanks everyone:  I knew you all would understand.

I am trying to prepare myself for when Cuddles gets taken from me.
Shes 12 blind & diabetic.  She is my baby and I know how my sister
is feeling.  Scruffy is not in pain that they can tell - seems like nothing
is wrong -  I think they will probably decide to just let her live until
she is in pain -  I just feel so heartsick over this.

Like I said, you CAN'T prepare yourself.  All you can do is tell yourself, somewhere in there, that you're doing the best thing.

I'd see what the vet says.  That's what helped me decide to end Molly's suffering.  I asked the vet if further testing/treatment would extend her life and give her a decent quality of life with no pain.  If the answer is no, that's the answer, hard as it is.

Good luck to your sister and her family.  And more wishes to you to be able to sit back and be the rational one when she needs someone to tell her it is okay to make the decision...

I can't imagine being in her position :(
