And unfortunately the PCP didnt have a magic answer for me...dang...Anyway, she said to get the upper GI done at St. Agnes so he can view the films and to get back in to see him as soon as they are done. Waiting on his office to call me with a time to go do that.

So who can tell me how horrible an barium upper GI is???

I had to have one pre-op and I was surprised that it went pretty quick. The worst part is the stuff you have to drink before the pics. But I have tasted stuff that was much worse. I just tried not to think about it and held my breath while I drank it.

Good Luck!

I'm sorry to hear that, Mellie.  I had an upper GI done pre-op, and it wasn't the best tasting thing, but it really wasn't HORRIBLE, either.  You can do it, especially since that might give you an answer.

The only problem I had was AFTER the upper GI - my body decided to rid itself of the barium pretty quickly via the potty.  If I recall, they tell you to drink a lot of water afterward to flush your system.

Not really sure how you being banded will change anything, but I'll ask Heather Modispaw to let you know - I'm pretty sure she had one post-op as a bandster.

Hugs,

Tia

Mellie,

I had an upper GI done a few weeks ago and it took about 1/2 hour and I left Advanced Radiology with the films for Dr. Schweitzer.

Nope, not hard at all, this time.  I was completely empty.  The first time was harder because my band was too tight.  I haven't been on much; what problems are you having that they are having you have an upper GI???

Well basically I was having pain in my side last week and he took out 1 cc. The pain got better but I just cant eat anything. Im supposed to be on pureed but I cant eat but maybe 2 teaspoons and it fills me up. Im nauseated too. Today I forced a slimfast down and my stomach was hard as a rock for an hour afterward.

Had you recently gotten food stuck before the pain started? Or vomited?
