OT: Summer Vacation with a 1 1/2 year old

I'm off for a week in July, which wasn't really my choice but daycare is closed that week. I'd rather be off in September when it's cooler.  But I digress.

I was thinking about taking my daughter to Dutch Wonderland or Sesame Place for a day.  I also plan to take her to Port Discovery for a day.  Are there any other cool places to take a small child?  We went to the Aquarium last weekend and she LOVED it.

Are there any air conditioned places?? lol  I hate the heat and I'm not supposed to be in the sun for too long due to medications.  But of course, I will sacrifice to make my little one happy.

Of course, this is all depending on if I ever get approved for surgery and when my date will be.

Any suggestions welcome. :)

Lisa -

Here's a link to Baltimore's Child Magazine, and they have a calendar of events.  This magazine is free (I usually pick it up at the library or Giant), and it's chock full of stuff - some free stuff and some really expensive stuff.

As far as a/c, check out your local library - most have Story Hour, some have Teddy Bear Picnics, PJ Parties, etc., and I know that the Rosedale branch of the Baltimore County Public Library has Storyville, which sounds just perfect for your little girl.

Hope this helps,

Tia

Thanks Tia!!! I'll check out the site.

I took her to Storyville this past Monday and she LOVED it. I need to take her more often. I live about 5 miles from it. Plus, you can't beat it for the price (FREE). :)

The only place I can think of that is air conditioned is Build a Bear in the Malls.  I  know that Towson Town has one, I don't know what mall is close to you. Of course there is always Chucky Cheese, but make sure you take Valium before going. The noise level is about 10.000 decibels. Good luck, I am sure you will have a great time doing nothing as long as you are with your daughter. Leslie:)

Love Dutch Wonderland - 1 1/2 is a wee bit young - its a great place for 3 and 4 year olds I think - but enough to do with a near toddler.
Port Discovery - does nothing for me.
Love the zoo.
All I can think of for now...

My daughter is not your typical 1 1/2 year old lol. She is fearless and climbs and runs all over the place. I take her to the park and she always wants to get on the big kid stuff. She even climbs up the rock wall! She's part monkey, I think LOL.

We took her to the zoo this past weekend and she wasn't too interested. All of the animals were just lying around. We called it "lazy animal day". Although she loved the stuffed Panda she got out of it. :)

We love Dutch Wonderland and Port Discovery! Just went to Port Discovery on Memorial Day and it was great!  I want to go to the Please Touch museum in Philly one day.  Same idea as Port Discovery, but it looked bigger and better!  Sesame Place is a bit more expensive than Dutch Wonderland.  If you aren't opposed to the drive, Boyd's Bear Barn is in Gettysburg and it's a lot of fun to look at everything and they usually have some things going on (check their site). The library (near us in Rosedale) has things for the little ones on Fridays (stories and singing, etc).  The zoo is a lot of fun (if it isn't humid!).  There's always the movies!  Lots of kids movies coming out.  I'll keep my eyes and ears open and let you know if I see or hear anything good!

Revised to VSG (6/11/09) weighing 253...

Heather, we'll have to meet up at the library one day after you're recovered from surgery. My daughter loves it there!

Love the B and O railroad museum - sometimes you can find a 2 for 1.
A *****eaper is the streetcar museum.
And, make friends with someone with a pool.

The Washington Zoo...lots of animals and they have lots of air conditioned exhibits.

Free and you can pack and have a picnic lunch if you like.
