Jo,

I had the same issue and was worried as well. I'm now 8 months out and the for the last 6-8 weeks my hair hasnt been falling out and is actually thicker and stronger.

I got a perm to help hide the initial thinning of my hair, since it is already thin to begin with.

Don't fret.. chances are, it won't be noticed by others (other than your hairdresser or your surgeons office) and will return to normal in a few months.

Thank you Ren, I needed to hear that.  So a perm didn't make it fall out? I had thought about going that route too when it stops.

I thought I was losing a lot of hair too but when I mentioned it to the curl that cut my hair a couple of months ago, she said that it is normal to lose up to 250 hairs per day.  That's really not much when you think that you have millions upon millions of strands of hair.  I feel like more than should be falls out sometimes but it's not noticeable to anyone, so don't stress too much!

Jo:

I had the same experience.  Some people told me, yes, you lose some hair, but mine also came out in clumps.  I did cut my hair very short and colored in darker to make it look thicker.  You've got another 2 months (probably) before it will stop.  Nic's right about the biotin, only helps with new hair growth.  Sorry - you're probably just going to have to grin and bear it!!  It does eventually stop.

I had that problem badly too. I added two protein shakes back into my diet and it has DRASTICALLY slowed down! I would say I get between 90-120 grams of protein a day.

Jo,

I lost a lot of hair during post op months 3 and 4.  By the middle of month 5 I noticed the loss slowing down.  I'm at 7 months post op now and my hair is back to normal.  I had a bald spot in the back....I did some teasing, used some hairspray, and had some layers added to try and bulk it up.  It'll get better.

I took my vitamins religiously and always got the right amount of protein.  My labs have been fine.     My surgeon said that the hair loss was most likley from my body being shocked by the surgery.

Hang in there!

Thank you Lauren. In my head I know it will get better, but seeing lots of hair in my hands and on the floor just freaks me out.
