can you travel immediately after surgery?
Hello everyone!
This group has been SUPER helpful to me in the past, and I need to call upon your vast knowledge yet again!
I will hopefully have a surgery date for the end of July, and since I live alone, have been planning on having my dad drive me from Washington, DC to his house in Philadelphia (2.5 hours) after I am released from the hospital so he can take care of me. Is this a smart thing to do? I already assume I'll need a super comfortable seat in the car for that long of a ride, but am also assuming I still may be a bit knocked out on pain meds.
What are your thoughts? I'm nervous that if I have a complication, it will be 2.5 hours before I can get to my doc down here.
THANK YOU in advance!
Lissa

Lissa -
As you've seen, each surgeon has different guidelines. For the first day or so after you're released, is there any way your Dad could stay with you down here?
Check with your surgeon obviously, but keep in mind that if you had a problem that warranted immediate care, you could always go to an ER in Philly and have them call your doctor.
In addition to a super comfortable seat in the car, I'd say you'll need more stops than normal along the way - just to stretch, empty your drain (if you have one), etc., and of course, LOTS of pillows to bolster you!
Good luck and keep us posted on your date!
