Went to Dr Vanguri today.
Honestly, I like him, he had five of us there, met each individually, then as a group. He answered questions both in private and group. He went over each procedure he performs, with Q&A after each.
During my private meeting, I asked him for his thoughts as to which surgery best suits me, his response, according to my goals, was to do a RNY, I asked about a DS, he said it wouldn't be a good idea for me, my BMI, 37, is too low, and he would reccommend it for me. I asked about his complications, and two deaths I was aware of, he responded he couldn't go into details, privacy rites, but both were from pre-existing conditions, complicated by the surgery. He seemed very straight forward with me, and I believe him. NO SURGERY is "safe", I understand that, but hopefully there would be NO deaths, but lets be real about it, ka-ka happens.
SO,
His reccommendation of RNY is going to push me over the edge, and use Dr Averbach, it keeps my endo and myself on good terms. If my endo had no preference, it would be a tough decision.
To everyone *****sponded to my questions about Dr Vanguri, thankyou for your input.
Would I advise someone to avoide Dr Vanguri? I couldn't do that, the reason I chose Dr Averbach for surgery, is strictly dictated by my Endo's refusing to co-operate with Dr Vanguri. I really don't have a preference.

Sounds like you are set on getting the DS then with Dr. Averbach or am I misinterpreting? Its important to have the docs communicating... just makes me wonder what's the issue your endo has with Dr. V
Like you said all surgeries have a risk. Some pre-op patients tend to be more focused on the surgeon but being 3 plus years out the pre-op psychological prep and support/aftercare program would play a bigger part in my decsion if I did this all over again. So many programs now have a much more comprehensive package for promoting lifestyle changes well before surgery- even hypnotherapy and other althernative modalities are now becoming part of the WLS program package.

Anna,
I really do like Dr Vanguri, If my endo was happy with him I probably would have leaned that way, If he said do a DS,, I might have to go against my endos wishes. I like Dr Averbach, and since both said RNY then I will go to Averbach just to keep things simple. The other option I have is RNY now, and DS later if needed, but I don't plan on letting that happen.
Best wishes to you on your DS, I guess it is better that I don't need that "drastic" of a procedure. From the two docs that said go With Varguri, and meeting him, I don't think you have anything to worry about!!
Wow your surgery is less than a week away!!!
Keep us informed!
