Why can't I take Motrin?

I remember them telling me not to take NSAIDS or aspirin products when I left the hospital, but why  not? I have this awful back ache behind my breasts for the last 2 days that just will not break and Tylenol is not cutting it. I need some ibuprofen.

I think that they believe that the Ibuprofen will irritate the stomach - especially at its stage.  However, I'd take liquid or chewable ibuprofen if it was absolutely necessary.

Well that makes sense but its a bugger. I think I will get me some liquid today and take it. Im gonna try a heating pad and see if it does anything first.

Mellie, ibuprofen irritates the stomach lining and since our pouches are so much smaller, it's a risk that it might irritate the same spot over and over and cause damage. I ahve used ibuprofen 2-3 times over the last 2 years when tylenol was just not doing it. My doc said that was fine, just to not use it regularly.

Call Dr. Singh - we don't have a pouch like the RNY people - we just have a smaller stomach.  He will permit ibuprofen products!  He allows Motrin (though not all surgeons do) - thats why he told me to do the band since I am addicted to the stuff!
