I am only a few days post-op; however, I'm from Maryland and well, you know, we love our crabs.  Has anyone had any trouble eating them, and when is a good time to introduce them?  No butter for me, as I prefer mine dipped in vinegar and Old Bay.  Sounding prettty good, huh?

I'm a Maryland Crab lover, too!  I am very happy to tell you that crabmeat is one of the best things we can eat!  I had my surgery last July (2008) and went to a crab feast in September and had a ball!  Of course, I couldn't eat too much, but now that I am 9 months out, I can tolerate a good amount of crabmeat!  In fact, I made crabcakes for dinner last night!  Lots of protein and easy to eat!  Yay, Marylanders!  Can't wait for more crabs this year!

I had an invite to go to Kent Island narrows via a nice 48 bayliner with some friends in search of crabs. I told them I maybe able to get one in, so I did'nt have to buy LOL Thats it 2 claws and part of right side.  Very sweet and a complete different taste.  At 6mos out, I'am  expermiting with most foods.  Its the quantity that blow me away.  I ready for another FREE crab trip.  I can pick over the left overs. LOL try shrimp, fresh (clear eyed) fish, and albacore
Good luck

While crab meat is an acceptable food, you are only a short distance from surgery. I do not recommend having this until you are in the solid food stage as directed by your surgeon/nutritionist.  The vinegar might also be harsh for your healing insides right now. If you decide to try it anyway, please be very cautious and only try a small amount. Then wait and see how you react to it. If by chance you have a negative reaction, it might only be because it is so soon post-op. Sometimes, we react to certain foods negatively at first, but then fine later on. This is an individual thing. Everyone is different.

Enjoy your holiday!

I don't rememeber when, but they are good for me. I have had no problems at all with crabs. I do however, have MAJOR issues with shrimp. I can not do them at all.

Assuming you get the same 2 weeks to solids that I did - I would say two weeks after surgery!  On my two date from surgery we went to Chili's and I had grilled shrimp...  I did fine with that, and crab is usually softer.  But I haven't had many food issues.  I say when Dr. A says you can AND your body feels like you are ready to step into your next stage of foods.

I lived in Maryland for 3 years, and have been driving to Maryland at least 5 days a week for the past 5 years, and you know I have never had a Maryland crab :( I don't even know how to eat them!  Someone needs to educate me on how to do this, or take me to lunch somewhere! LOL

You live in Maryland, & frequented maryland for how long & have NOT had a Maryland Blue Crab?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Awww honey, you have been deprived! I will be having a crab feast this summer, & you will have to travel onto this side of the bridge for some steamed crabs! I can almost bet, if your pouch likes them, you will be in love
