saw my endo today. we are gonna run a bunch of tests but she said it sounds like hypoglycemia and that many rny patients are developing this! I sure didn't know this before surgery. Not sure it would have changed things but I am a bit upset and not sure what will happen now. as i learn more, I will let you know.

This is why I WANT DS surgery, try to knock my diabetes out, as a diabetic, the malabsortion is a good thing, as well as something "chemical" that helps diabetics. Maybe your pacrious (sp) is working too hard. If you get sweats, shakes, feeling "wired" these are all symptons of being hypo. Last week I went as low as 30, litterally could see correctly, and couldn't stand. Scared the hebie jebbies out of me. Thank God my wife was around.

Tom:
I can't think of any better reason to have the surgery.  I was diabetic pre-op and taking 5 shots of insulin a day.  I was miserable.  Came hom on no meds and was cleared from having "uncontrolled diabetes," 30 days after surgery.  It doesn't work with everyone like this, but I was one of the lucky ones.  Good luck on your journey!!!

Nicole, I am not sure what your symptoms were but my doctor told me that post-surgery patients can have hypoglycemic attacks without truly being hypoglycemic. He said when we eat sugar, our body can't absorb it sometimes and passes it quickly. However, the insulin has been released and it's looking for sugar to take care of. when it doesn't find it, the body thinks it's running low on sugar and you can get shakes and tremors.

When did you have your bloodwork done last?

Nicole: Sorry you are going through this.  However I am experiencing similar things ( have not had surgery yet)  I have been expierencing periods of hotflash sweats followed by being clamy and chilled, blurred vision,  anxiety.  I have made an appointment with pcp and going to ask him to do a glucose tolerance test.  If I am diabetic or hypoglycemic its better to know prior to surgery than after.

Nic,
wishing you all the best. I had lots of issues with my blood sugar before surgery. None since.
