aspirin

I have a question. I was directed to take 2 aspirin while on my flight to NM. Advil or Tylenol do not work. I think it has to do with the blood thining for the altitude in NM. I was also told to drink a lot of water before, during and after my flight. Some people that did not follow this advice had a headache the whole time they were there.

What do you guys think? 2 aspirin for 1 time?

Hmmmm............well, you know aspirin is generally a no-no for us, as is Advil.  Who told you to do this?

I'm guessing that one time wouldn't hurt, but if you weren't directed to do so by a doctor, why don't you call DVR's office?

Have a great trip!  Let's try to get together when you get back!

Hugs,

Once I asked Dr. vonRueden about a topical pain cream for my joints that another MD wanted to know if I could use. This cream had nasaids in it. Dr. von Rueden said that I could do this for a short period of time, but not long. The build up of this stuff in our bloodstream puts us at high risk for ulcers. I think Tia's advice is right on - best to call the MD to be sure if a one-time use would be OK.

P.S. By the way, I chose to not use the cream, even for a short period. I think we need to avoid the risk if at all possible.

Maybe cut it down to 1 aspirin?

I know when I get a migraine (usually once a month) I take 1 excedrin migrain pill (yes, I know it's an NSAID) and it wipes out the migraine.

But if you are uncomfortable being told to do this, I would talk with my physician also.

Hope you get the answer you want.

RNY on 10/06/08 with
Gail

I have saw a similar topic on the RNY board as well and many people after talking to thier surgeons suggested that if you *MUST* then take an asiprin or an NSAID try and take something over the counter to coat your stomach first like Prevacid or something. That will help protect your pouch from the NSAID

Dr. A agrees with none ever for preventing something that may never happen, and my PCP disagrees!  So I am NOT taking it... My thoughts are that losing weigh is also a prevention plan, so I am doing SOMETHING...

Well, I got a call in to Dr. Mo's office but who knows if I will get a call back. I think I am just going to go ahead and take one. I can buy the coated aspirin too.

My doctor told me to take Ecotrin which is an asprin that is absorbed in the intestines so it won't bother your stomach.  I took I a day for the first few weeks post-op.
