Marty is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. We will have to be there by 10:45, which means we will need to leave here no later than 9. Both of my kids have a virus. My son was first with diarrhea and vomiting. We thought by the second day since no one else had it that maybe it was something he ate. Well last night my daughter woke us up with vomiting. I cant imagine this could be good for Marty because what if it hits him the day after surgery? That could wreak havoc on his band. What if it hits me tomorrow morning when I will have to drive 1.5 hours up and 1.5 hours back. And I have no one to watch my kids tomorrow. Ugh. So now what do I do, just cancel his surgery or try to move forward with it?

I know if I were Marty, there would be nothing that would stop me at this point.

I agree - have him sleep in a tent tonight (its not like he is going to sleep anyway).
GOOD HADWASHING ON EVERYBODIES PART and use separate bathrooms if you can - and limit Marty's contact with the kids.
Hope the kids feel better and good luck!

Well I called the surgeon's office and they are trying to get in touch with the nurse to ask her advice, so I guess I will wait and see what she says.

In the meantime both kids are using their own bathrooms. Ive forbidden Marty to go into either one of them and have confined him to our bedroom bathroom. Ive already told my son yesterday to avoid contact with dad so they have been doing air hugs from afar. My daughter is still in bed this morning and I have a feeling she will stay in bed all day anyway.

My biggest problem is what happens if I get sick tomorrow and have to drive him 1.5 hours there and 1.5 hours back plus I have no one to stay with my sick kids. Thats the dilemma Im having. I guess I will have to take them with me and just drop him off and come home.

Drop him off with nice wet kiss and get back to the kids. Let him tell the nurse about any sickness he has. Make sure his cell is charged and call him 2 hrs after recovery. A reschedule may be weeks out
good luck

How old are your kids?  Can you alert a neighbor that they will be alone and sick and have her keep checking on them?  And then you call them every half hour, etc. just to check in and know that she can get there in seconds if an emergency were to come up?

Just a thought :(

Good luck in whatever you guys decide to do!  I would NOT willingly cancel and do the liquid diet over again... JMO.  I would have paid and taken a cab to the hospital if needed be...  Or left my car in the parking lot until someone else could drive it home for us...

Well just a bit of an update. I guess I was in panic mode this morning. Im a freaking wreck today. He has never had to have any kind of surgery since we have been together and Im just so not liking him going under, but I know I know Im a freak.

Anyway, my son seems to be doing good today. He has only gone to the bathroom once and he's eating well and keeping things down. No fever. So I think he's going to school tomorrow. If he ends up needing to stay home I will just take him with me and we will drop dad off and come home. My daughter woke up and said she felt absolutely fine. She said she thinks she ate too much yesterday. Then she gave me a list of what she ate. I think it would have killed me to eat that much, so she's quite sure thats all hers was. No fever, no diarrhea at all. Not even nauseated anymore and shes eating today as well so she definitely will go to school tomorrow. Surgeon's office said as long as Marty wasn't having any symptoms on the morning of surgery to go ahead as planned. We definitely don't want to cancel because we are both just too darned nervous for him to wait another week. If I wake up and end up being sick then i will just deal with it and make pit stops along the way, drop him off, and come home. Keep us in your prayers that we all are good tomorrow.
