sometime during the night my ankle locked up.  I have something called an

basically it means part of my ankle bone has "died" (from a REPAIR to a previous injury) and 'broken off'" from the bone.  it floats around within the joint.

rarely does it cause me a LOT of problems... although the ankle is often weak and will "give way" now and then...

this morning I got out of bed and practically fell down  so I put on my boot :.  www.footandankle.com/podproducts/aircast.gif

and now I wait till the ankle UNLOCKS.  someitmes it's a few days.. sometimes it's 6 weeks....  the piece that floats has locked into a painful position.  wearing the boot relieves most of the pain and gives me enough support so I can walk and stuff....

but i'm  cancelling my pedicure... no sense in having one when I can't have the massage.

What? No pedi? What a shame.......

Seriously, I'm with Angie - can't they do anything for it besides the boot?

well here's the way the surgery would work:

1. they take cartilidge from my knee (which is already comprimised with a torn meniscus) and transplant it to the spot in the ankle where the OD is.   they then HOPE the graft takes.  (80% chance).

meanwhile I can not bear ANY weight on the leg for THREE MONTHS.   that means BEDRIDDEN on a bedpan since I would be in a hip to toe cast...

THEN i would have to do remain off the ankle to do PT on the knee and THEN PT on the ankle

and THEN it may or may NOT solve the problem.

my Ortho surgeon recommended against doing it.  and you know how most surgeons love to cut...

All options sound horrible. I hope it unlocks sooner rather than later.

The boot sounds like a good option for now. :)
