At St. Agnes before surgery do they give you anything to calm your nerves? He is really apprehensive about getting the IV and the waiting for surgery. I know when I had my tonsils out they gave me some stuff in my IV while I was waiting that was just delightful, but that was at a different hospital.

They gave me something that took me from crying to laughing in like 2 seconds flat.   Unfortunately, it wasn't given to me until just before they wheeled me out of the room into the surgery.

I am SURE if he discusses this with the doctor and the anesthesiaologist (sp) he will be given something (if not by mouth then via IV once inserted)....
