Tell me about you please
Hi Mellie,
I had Lap Band surgery on 11/30/07 at GBMC with Dr. Moeinolmolki. I started out at 235 and I've lost 56 of the 85-95 pounds I want to lose. I was on a plateau from August, 08 to April, 09, got a fill and am losing again. I was okay with the plateau and I'm hoping my body will reset it's set point from it. I was self-pay. Arrived at the hospital at 5 a.m. and was discharged at 1 p.m. My surgery and recovery were completely problem free. As of my last fill on 4/22, I am at 6.25cc. I think I finally have good restriction (even have gotten stuck a couple of times if I've eaten too fast or eaten something that will not be a problem food for me...yesterday it was the skin of a dill pickle even though I chewed it like crazy.)
Hope you do well too!
Terri

Hi there! I'm Maureen (or MoeMoe)
I had my RNY done on 1/13/09 so I'm still a newbie. Dr. William Roe did my surgery and I LOVE HIM! I've had the best experience with my recovery and adjusting to my new way of life. As each day passes, it becomes more normal for me. I've already lost over 75 pounds and I couldn't be happier- not to mention all my health problems have disappeared. I've got about 90 pounds to go, but there's so much light at the end of the tunnel.
How about you?

Hi! I'm Bernice, but you can call me Bea. I'm still in the process of having all my pre-op testing done - 6 mos diet, pre-op testing, etc. I'm hoping to have surgery around November. I'm going to Dr. Stephen McKenna with Upper Chesapeake Bariatric Surgery Center in Havre de Grace. I've lost about 8 pounds since I started my supervised diet. I have about 170 pounds to lose.

Hi Mellie,
I had RNY on 10/07/08 by Dr. Michael Schweitzer of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Bariatric program. I have lost 83 lbs so far and have 22 to go until I hit my first goal (150) Dr. S and I never discussed a goal weight but the least I remember weighing as an adult was 155 in my early 20's. At that point people thought I was pretty thin. I'd really like to get to about 140, so that adds another 10 lbs to my needed weight loss. Anything above and beyond that is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
I'm the healthiest I've been in many years being off 8 prescriptions so far (blood pressure, asthma, allergies, etc) and have just started reintroducing exercise into my routine.
That's abou it...

Hi Mellie,
I had RNY at GBMC by Dr. von Rueden on November 8th, 2007. He is now at St. Agnes. I have lost a total of 220 lbs. and I feel great! I used to take a basketful of meds and they are all gone. I want to lose about 20 more lbs. It is hard to say exactly what is right because of the loose skin. Dr. von Rueden says I have already achieved the maximum health benefits of the surgery. So anything else I lose is for my comfort only. He is fine if I stay where I am.
I really feel that goal weights are an imperfect science. There are so many factors that go into what is right for each person. You have to wait until you get closer before you really start to work out what is right for you. It is OK when you are starting out to have an idea in mind of where you think you might be. But the focus is not really a number even thought that is how we tend to measure our success. Focus instead on being healthy, and the rest will follow.
Wishing you all the best!
Debbie
