Update . . . I'm still alive!!
As you all know this past weekend was the 2 day AVON Walk for Breast Cancer.
It was an awesome, amazing, inspirational weekend. With about 3,000 walker participants, we were able to raise 8.3 million dollars to help fight and find a cure for breast cancer.
Opening ceremonies started early on Saturday morning. The bus picked us up at 5:30. We heard from several men, women and children about how breast cancer has affected their lives. Their stories were both humbling and inspirational. The first 8 miles were a breeze, walking through downtown Washington, DC and enjoying the sites and our co-walkers. Lunch was a 8.5 miles, by this time people were starting to get blisters, still we prevailed. Then came 5 miles of hilly terrain. Wow, what a challenge. Day one ended at the wellness village, where we sat down to dinner at about 4:30. Bri (my worker friend) and & I were so tired, we decided not to stay for the evening entertainment. We were glad the day had gone so well without a drop of rain.
Sunday morning: After a night of rest, our bodies were tired and sore and it was raining. So as we started our 13.2 mile walk, we vowed to each other that we would at least walk 5 miles. Well 5 became 8 and 8 became 10 and then, what the heck we need to finish. We did all 13.2 miles in the pouring rain on Sunday. Can you say overwhelmed?!!!! As we crossed the finish line we both had tears in our eyes. What an accomplishment. Neither one of us thought we could do the whole 26.2 miles, but we did. A year ago, I would have never imagined that I could finish, or even start this 2 day walk.
It was AMAZING! And we signed up, in the rain, to participate next year. So if anyone is interested in joining our "team" please let us know!!
So I just wanted to say thank you! Thanks to all of you that gave a donation and for your encouraging thoughts and prayers. Without you all I couldn’t have done it.
So, until next year, just remember that every 3 minutes another Woman or Man is diagnosed with breast cancer and you can make a difference!!!
