Hello,

I had my pre-op visit the other day and the nut gave me some new samples so now I'm not sure which ones I want...
I was wondering if anyone recommends any specific vitamins and calcium and B12 supplements. I am worried that I'll go out and buy something now and then hate the taste post-op. So, any recommendations would be appreciated. I have been doing chewables pre-op and am just not sure I'll be able to stomach the taste after.

Thanks!
Erin

If you find something you can live with after, let me know :) What I thought I could - I can't!

Erin, as far as multivitamins go, just make sure they have Zinc in thenm. I use the ones form Costco and I haven't had a problem with them.

For Calcium, I had trouble swallowing the large pills, so I use Caltrate Petites; a bit more expensive than the regulars but at least I take them without gagging. Every now and then, I switch them up with Bariatric Advantage Calcium  Citrate wafers. They're ok, you are supposed to suck them which takes half an hour, I just chew and swallow with water.

For B-12, I am still getting shots once a month form my surgeon.

I am so glad you asked this question this is something that I spent so much money on in the past year especially at first it was so hard. Here is the best that I found:

If you have not problem chewing vitamins and can stand a gritty type feeling then use

Bariatric Advantage Chewable Fruit flavored vitamins
Bariatric Advantage Chewable Calcium Cherry flavored calcium

If you are like me and have a hard time with the chewing and grit here is what I found best:

Bariatric Advantage Chocolate Chewy Bites - (the only drawback is that you have chew about 8 a day but they are like candy)  they come in a bag of 60 for 9.99 and now they are coming in Lemon ( I just order them)- Later on post surgery you could use Citracel Calcium Petites I usually use 4 chewy bites and two petities to get all my calcium in.

Bariatric Tropical Oasis Liquid vitamins I take one capfuf a day swig it done and and it is done for the day the taste is not bad as it is fruit flavored.

As far as B12 I take a shot once a month. If you don't want to do the shop you will need to take a supplement each day the B12 dots are the best.

Hope this helps if there is anything I can answer for you please let me know.

Hope this helps

Theresa

I really like my Bariatric Advantage.  I take the Orange Multi-vitamin and the Cinnamon Calcium.  I am so in love with the Cinnamon Calcium!  :)

Good luck finding what you like.  I think it's really all a matter of taste.

Thanks everyone...very helpful information. The nut gave me some samples of bariatric advantage and I thought it was OK, but I guess I'll wait until I am post-op to see if my tastes change.
