Submitted.. and now I wait

Dr. S's office submitted my paperwork to BCBS this week (Tues or Wed). Theresa told me it will take at least 14 days.  So, should I really wait that long before I start calling?

I'm so anxious! I want this to go smoothly, although most things in my life don't work out that way LOL.

Does anyone know how far out Dr. S has been scheduling his surgeries? I want to start planning (work, etc), but have no idea what kind of time-frame I'm looking at.

Say some prayers and wishes for me to get approved!

Everyone here told me to be patient and they were right. It took about 11 days after they submitted mine before I heard back. Good luck!!

Hi-
I too will see Dr Singh on 5-21. What specific test did you need to complete before your papers were submitted for approval? I have Bluechoice HMO Md (they do cover lap and gastric bypass). My BMI is over 40, I have my 6 month diet and did blood work today. I will do my nutrition & psy on the 21st when I see the Doc. Should I expect a long wait between approval and surgery. When I spoke to the office last week they said they were into June for surgeries. When did you get your approval? How long did it take to gather all your documents? Were there any last minute surprises/test, etc?

THanks for any help with these questions!

Lisa I am praying for you!!!! I was told the same thing that it could take several weeks but impatient me called the insurance company that week only to find out that I was denied for missing paperwork....and then the doc called the doc at the insurance company and had the denial overturned. This all happened within a week. Every insurance is different but my suggestion is do not be afraid to call the insurance company and ask the status, you pay their salary.

Lisa,

I have BCBS Fed.  I think I dealt with a different front office person than you do with Dr. S, but she told me they should know in a week.  I called BCBS to make sure the paper work was actually submitted, and I was already "approved", even though, throughly confusing, BCBS told me they do not pre approve surgery.  Anyway, I knew in about 48 hours.  I wouldn't wait, I'd call to find out what's going on at the BCBS.

Good Luck!
I would wait and call the insurance Monday...  Just to "make sure" everything has been received...  That would be as patient as I could stand... *grins*  I called my insurance every third day once my was submitted. I don't have BC/BS but it took three days to get a call saying they needed a letter from my PCP saying it was medically necessary - and after fighting for two weeks to get that done and to them, (I changed PCP's over this!!!) I got my approval in about a week and a half - I called the insurance to be told it was pending, and Dr' A's office called me with an approval less than an hour later!
