Fiber question....

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if you could help me out with something... I had the absolute WORST experience last week with consitpation (I'll spare you the details).  My doctor said I can pretty much take anything to help regulate things, but I wondered what you take to add fiber to your diet.

Thanks for your suggestions!!!

Maureen,

Can you eat salad yet?  Some surgeons/nutritionists okay it at about 3 months out.  That definitely helps.  I also take 1-2 colace in the morning and 2 in the evening and that has helped me fairly well.  I've also heard of people using Benefiber.

I started eating salad last week (after my "ordeal") and I haven't had any issues with it.  How much do you generally eat?

I probably have at least a cup of salad or more.  Most of the things chew down to almost nothing so it's actually kind of shocking how much of it you can eat.  Of course, I always make sure that I have protein in it...tuna, chicken, shrimp, etc...

In the beginning I tried chewable fiber tablets, stool softeners, etc. Now the best thing that works for me is my daily Quaker Weight Control oatmeal.

I am having the same "issue" as we speak! Ugh!!! My surgeon suggested adding Benefiber to my diet daily.

I do a packet of oatmeal a day, but in the beggining it was Miralax (dr recommended).  Or as Tia once told me, have some sugar alcohols and that will move things along very quickly.  I once had a "sugar free" smoothy and it wasn't too long before I was running.

Good luck.

Yep, what Lisa said!!!  I learned quickly that 4 mini s/f Peppermint Patties were the BEST taste laxative out there!!  LOL!!!

Also, a small s/f Rita's Italian ice works, too!

LOL!!!
