I know we are supposed to drink 64 oz. of water in a day, but is there such a things as TOO much water?  Or too close together?

I drank 142oz yesterday between 7:15am and 5pm, and of course during that time frame go to the bathroom constantly.  And this is my general routine, and then I never drink anything after 5pm and rarely go to the restroom after that.

I consciently watched what I ate yesterday and drank drank drank as you can see....however I gained 3 lbs yesterday.

So....can you drink more than your body can process in a day?  And can you drink it too quickly??

Yes you can drink more than your body can process and drinking too much is as bad as not enough.  Me, when I drink too much at one time i get nauseaus.  I am still trying to drink 32 oz a day lt alone 64oz.

Hope this helps some

I remember reading something on OH about this at some point and hearing about it throughout the years.  Did a search on "drink too much water" and came up with a bunch of results, but this is one that I found:

"It is possible to develop so-called "water intoxication," but it's VERY difficult to do. You would have to drink a lot of water all at once, something on the order of 3 quarts (3/4 gallon) in a few minutes. If I remember correctly, water intoxication is more likely to occur in people who have been sweating heavily (losing electrolytes like sodium and potassium) and drinking a lot of plain water. This disrupts the electrical activity of the heart. You can find a couple of short articles at http://www.webmd.com by typing "water intoxication" in the search field."

Yea, I agree with Boxer. My Doc says try 60 oz water, if not make sure you get light fluids in.  I drink SF white tea as a sipper during the day and at the gym.  Non fat milk and cabernet as the extras

I've heard that it is VERY hard to drink too much water. The only time I've heard of people having complications is when they are in a contest of who can drink water and NOT PEE.  The not peeing it out was the bad part.

Didn't you hear that story a few years ago...a radio station had a contest "pee for your Wii".  A mom entered to get a Wii for her kids and died.  You can ge****er intoxication, have electrolyte abnormalities and cause brain swelling.
OK, is that a bit severe and unusual - YES.  But is it possible to drink too much water - the answer is YES!

I get my Lap Band on Monday, will it hurt when I take my first sip? I'm just curious.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I had  RNY not lap band, but anyhow... the nurses will work with you on your drinking. They will tell you, like we all will, small sips of room temp water. It won't hurt. In fact, it will probably feel GREAT since you'll be very parched from surgery.
Hugs!
