OT: What could this be?

First let me say DH has a doctor appt scheduled for this week. We are just trying to figure out what it might be in the meantime.

About 2-3 weeks ago DH got kicked in the shin at karate and that night it bruised a bit, its been sore ever since but no excrutiating pain and he has no problems using the leg so he didn't bother getting it checked out.

Last week he came home from work and his calf was swollen tight. He actually had to stop on the way home and walk around a bit, it was that tight feeling. We called and they put him in for the afternoon that day, however, after he laid down for several hours the swelling went down and he said he felt fine so he made me cancel the appt.

Now today he shows me his leg and to me its swollen and tight but he says it doesnt hurt nor does it feel tight to him. I cant pull skin together with my fingers and to me thats tight. Also, and this is what concerns me, he has a bruise ring around the bottom of his leg, below his ankle all the way at the bottom. He says that doesnt bother him at all and in fact he hadnt noticed it.

So what do you all think it could be? Like I said he has an appt for Thursday but we are just curious what it could be.

There could be some internal swelling and blood clotting around the kick site. He should have went to the Docs right away honey. The last thing he needs is a clot. I hope its not but it has happened before. It could just be a bad bruise too which I have had and have had swollen before. I hope the Doc can figure it out. Seems like a long wait for him. ((((Hugs)))))

Like Jilly, my first thought was a clot.  Not sure I wouldn't be trying to force him to the ER; they can do a Doppler Ultrasound to rule out a clot.

Thanks guys. My first thought was a clot too, however, he has no pain in his leg, only when you touch the area that was kicked. He wont go to the ER. He has an appt tomorrow morning and there is a doctor in his karate class tonight, so I will ask her what she thinks and if she thinks he needs to go to the ER then he's going if I have to hog tie him and get him there.

Hello I think its a clot or really bad bruise.. Drag him to the doc asap... Keep us posted...

i dont think blood clot, cause that would have caused problem, big problem by now.  I would say mabe he bruised bone or muscle or something.  Usually when you get kicked there you are hitting bone or muscle.  If he is not in pain than its probably not a big deal.  Blood clots though arnt anything to mess with but you would have noticed some other sign by now if it was a blood clot..
