You are not doing anything wrong if you are following your guidelines.  I did everything right (I'm anal like that!)  and I stalled for 3 weeks at the 3 week mark.  I've been stalling for a week now.   I think I've lost tons of weight.  Your body will do what it wants to do.  Just do what you are supposed to do and you will be fine.  :)  I know it's very hard.  I was so upset during my first stall.  I have failed at every diet I have ever heard of.  I didn't want to fail this time.  But, the beauty is as long as we follow the doctor's orders, we can't fail.  It's tried and true.  :)

Take a deep breath and step away from the scale.

Thank you!!!!!!  I feel much better.  You are right.  I need to just relax.  I am afraid to fail.  Your words of encouragement are heaven sent.  Thanks again!!

You are welcome.  I know how much better it made me feel when others would tell me the same thing happened to them.  I heard that everyone stalls around 3-4 weeks.  Your body is recovering from surgery and trying to catch up with what weight you've already lost.  I'm glad I could help.  :)

Don't get frustrated, this is normal.  You are giving your body something new.  You will pick back up, keep in mind to get in all the fluids you can and protein protein protein
Stay positive.

Hi Margaret!

I am not banded yet (my surgery is on Friday) and I know it may be much easier said than done but...RELAX.

You are only 4 weeks out from surgery. You haven't had a fill yet so there is not much restriction...everything is working as it is supposed to at this stage. I know we have a tendency to want things faster than we can get them but know your body is still trying to figure out what you have done to it. In a little more time your body, head, and band will catch up with each other and begin to work together to get your weight off. Until then just try and focus on the positive things that have come out of this journey so far and think of all wonderful things yet to come. By sticking to the band rules as provided by your doctor everything else fall into place in due time.

You are off to a great start. Congratulations on the loss so far...but know that this is only the beginning.

Continued success to you on this journey!

i stalled at the 7 month mark for almost 2 months!  rest assured your weightloss is FAR from over.......since then i've lost almost 40 more pounds LOL  your body is adjusting and it takes time for it to keep readjusting because now it's constantly changing.  hang in there hon....you're not doing anything wrong as long as you're following the rules!

What I was told by my surgeon is this:

When you have surgery especially to this degree, it is very traumatic to your body and it takes muscle to heal the "wounds" of surgery. It takes positive to heal the negative. After the initial weight loss and at about 4-6 weeks, you will regain the muscle mass you had previously lost and that is why we have a stall. He called it the "In for a penny out for a penny" syndrome or something to that effect. He was much more technical.

You'll see the weight beginning to fall off again soon, don't dismay.

Hi Margaret,

I am assuming you have not yet had a fill?  This is entirely normal and your weight loss will pick up again after your first fill.  Please don't expect to have the same significant drop you experienced in the first week or two after surgery.  That's your body subsisting on liquids and dropping all the water weight.  It took a long time to gain the fat, and the healthy way to lose it with a lap band is 1 to 2 pounds per week.  Also, please don't let that scale rule you.  If you are now exercising where you were not prior to surgery, you are most assuredly gaining muscle.  Since the same volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat, some people actually gain weight on the scale.  Using a body composition scale would tell you for sure.  I use a Tanita scale that shows percentage of fat, muscle, water, and bone.  It helps me to know what my composition is, especially if the scale goes up and I've been nothing but good!

Keep the faith!  You can do this.
