I'm trying to figure out how to get at least some of my plastics covered. I have really bad arms. Do you think there is a doc out there who would say it is medically necessary? do i go to my primary care or directly to plastic surgeons? any advice would be great.

Don't have any answer for this Nic but if you find one let me know.

I do remember a woman on the main board  Sarah from Florida who had
gotten her insurance company to pay for the arms but it took her years
and she really had SERIOUS issues

My arms are bad but my inner thighs are even worse.  From what I have heard secondhand, PS for arms is almost impossible to get covered  as medically necessary.  The abdominal apron some get post op is sometimes covered partially  (basic tummy tuck- not body lift)   if it results in continual rashes/skin infections and severe chronic back pain.  Same with boobs---rashes and back pain---they can do a reduction of skin but implants are not covered- unless perhaps you had a masectomy due to cancer.
But times are changing, with more and more surgeries being covered- perhaps reconstructive (not cosmetic) PS will be too.

Hey Nicole,

I know surgeons give discounts if you get more then one thing done. Maybe we can find a surgeon that will give a discount if we bring in more then person? Like a group discount.

Has anyone heard of this situation?

I was at my primary care MD's office yesterday and she said that a lot of plastic surgeons are feeling the pinch of the economy right now. Therefore, they are offering a lot of discounts. While this may not be insurance coverage, it may be worth doing some of the leg work to see what is being offered out there.
