3 THINGS FOR THE MONDAY AFTER NYC!!!
Good morning!!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!! I'm a little late getting on here, had a foot dr. appt. this a.m. - absolutely NO foot pain at all - probably a combination of the cortisone shots and the inserts he had me buy. Today, my gratefuls all surround NYC:
1. Friends - And I mean true friends - I felt like I was surrounded by family this weekend; there was no drama, fighting, etc., everyone was in agreement on what to do and where to go and it was all very comfortable while at the same time being insanely hectic.
2. We had multiple WOW moments on Saturday - First of all, the walking - and we did tons of it; then, the steps up and down to the Subway - we all agreed that pre-op, NONE of us could've done it; going through turnstiles head-on, and not having to turn sideways!!!! It was clear that WLS has been a gift to all of us.
3. Cheesecake and chocolate - Hey, nobody said we were saints!!! We went into the Lindt Chocolatier on 5th Avenue and bought some things, and I bought cheesecake for my family right before we left. If you've never had NY cheesecake, there's honestly nothing like it!!
In the past, it would've taken me several days to recover. This time, while my legs were tired on Sunday and I had a horrible ankle cramp early Sunday a.m., I could actually walk!!! My heel spur didn't scream, and I didn't really feel like I was run over by a truck. I didn't really do anything on Sunday but nap off and on, but it was such a difference from pre-op life!!
The bus ride - Well, just remember, you get what you pay for. On the way up, the bus apparently had a flat tire. I say apparently because the driver never said anything to us, and we were soon on our way.
Once we got up there, we bought all day subway passes ($7.50 - you couldn't beat it!), and then immediately went to Ground Zero. I wasn't really familiar with that area, so we kind of walked in circles a bit, but eventually found our way. We had a quick lunch in the Stage Door Deli, and headed over to the site. Like I told everyone, Ground Zero is still a major construction site, albeit with pictures of what the memorial will look like. Then we visited St. Paul's Chapel, which was beautiful and awe-inspiring. From there, we took the subway to 5th Avenue, did some shopping on there and walked down to Central Park so Darla could "see" it and then watched the insanity that's 5th Avenue and Central Park, walked into the refurbished Plaza Hotel, and then again, took the subway over to Times Square, where we did some shopping and some sightseeing before heading over to an early dinner at Carmine's. It was me, Boxer Heather, Darla, Lisa Z. and her wonderful friend, Janet. We had SUCH a lovely time!! Dinner was a great mixed field green salad and lasagna - ONE platter of lasagna fed all 5 of us!!! LOL!!! The best part for me was watching Lisa get absolutely trashed by 2 oz. of wine!!!!! I warned her! LOL!!!
After our shopping and stepping into Sephora, Toys R Us, the Hershey Store and Grand Slam NYC (a souvenir shop), it was time to head back to the bus. Or where we thought the bus was, anyway. The directions from Megabus were pretty vague, and thank God for Kathy and that people were calling Megabus, because we found that we were at the wrong spot. So finally, the bus comes and we get on - we're all talking and not paying attention to the fact that while almost out of the city, the bus has stopped. Lights flash on and off, the driver doesn't say anything, and we're on our way again. We're headed toward the Lincoln Tunnel when Lisa says, "Oh, God, I hope we don't get stuck in the tunnel," when, yep, you guessed it, we get stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel for maybe 30 minutes. Finally, we get going again and drive for a bit and pull into a rest stop, where the driver, who I'm convinced by now, is a mute, gets off and another driver and a mechanic get on. Finally, someone asks, and he says, "Well, we always stop here to switch drivers and we had to get the problem diagnosed." Needless to say, Megabus will be getting an email from me, although I'm really happy we made it back in one piece!!!
So that was essentially our trip!! Like I said, it was a great time, full of wonderful memories and even wonderfuler friends. Ladies, thank you again so much!! Candy and Jerry, I'm glad you guys had a good time, I'm sorry we couldn't spend more time together. Darla, you ever bring her again, Boxer Heather and I are chopping you into little pieces!!!! All in all, the trip was a success, and I'll be checking into an overnight sometime in the fall.
Have a great day!

Tia.....
I am so glad you all had such a wonderful trip! I really wanted to go, but finances were not in my favor this time! Hopefully, when you all go again, I will be able to make it! All my paperwork was submitted on the April 1st to the insurance company, so I am amped! Can you say OVER EXCITED???? I am hoping everything goes thru without any complications, but even if a problem arises, I am ready to tackle it head on! I hoep you have a great week!
Today I am grateful for:
1} my family.......they endure so much with all my health issues, but they never complain & still encourage me to do whatever it is I am aiming for!
2} my OH family.......you guys never seem to mind when I have an "off" day & just vent......even if its about nothing!
3} that patience can happen! Usually I am short on patience, but since my paperwork got submitted to the insurance company last week, I have found a new sense of patience........ it is pretty nice, even tho I am still nervous!
4} for my furbaby! She seems to be getting better with the new meds they gave her! She is 12, and I dont know what I would do if I lost her!

I saw your post, sorry about that!!!! I was just so excited about our weekend that I couldn't wait to talk about it!!!
I had a great time with you, too - I was aware of your (understandable) fear of the steps, so I'm so glad you did such a good job with them!!!
I especially enjoyed sitting with you and Heather on the way back - I'm only sorry there wasn't room at our "table" for Lisa and Janet, but they were exhausted, and probably would've just wanted us to shut the hell up!!! LOL!!!! We talked the WHOLE way back!!!!! LOL!!!!
Love ya, girl!! I had a blast with you and I'm glad you were just willing to go along with whatever was suggested.
Glad you got things straightened out for the game in September - that'll be fun, too!!!
Hugs,
Tia
