Who to go to for a VSG?
Hi - Go to Sinai with dcotor Li or Gandsas. You will be so happy you did. They have done more Sleeves than anyone one in the area.
I started with JH but had a bad experience. They did get me approved but I only trusted Dr. Gandsas with my surgery. I had RNY with Dr. Gandsas but he tired to turn me into a Sleever but I feelt that the RNY was best for me. No, I am referring a friend of mine to Sinai for the Sleeve. Their Nutrutionist is AMAZING!!!!!
Best of luck and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about the doc or the Sinai team.

thanks for the post reply Iman. Do you think there would be any advantage in choosing Dr. Li vs Dr. Gandsas? Things like does one do more VSG's than the other, or bedside manner/TLC? I hope to get to Sinai Monday night and believe that Dr. Gandsas will be doing the seminar, so I might have to make a initial selection without the chance to hear them both. Good to hear that their nutritionist is so good - staff can make a big difference in the experience overall. I appreciate you willingness to answer my questions. Kathryn (Littleway)
Unless you are paying out of pocket for your surgery make sure your insurance company covers it because most of them don't. I tried and failed at getting mine approved 3 times they just won't do it. I finally went with the realize band after they dealt me the 3rd denial on the VSG so for your own sanity do that first or when you look forward to the surgery and they tell you no you will be very disapointed like I was. I do love my band though I am down 51 pounds since November.
Boy do I understand what you are saying, but I have decided that I will self pay if the insurer's wont cover the VSG. I was approved for the band in 2006 after doing the obligatory 6 months of physician directed diet etc. etc. My surgery was scheduled but the pre-op chest xray showed something that turned out to be hodgkin's lymphoma - so instead of getting banded I got chemoed. There is not concensus in the medical community about whether or not the band would be the best option for me now and when I learned about the VSG, I knew that that was the way for me to go. Glad the band is working well for you and wish you the best. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I will soon be on my way with WLS.
