First Post Op Appt

Was a breeze!
Dr. A removed the "tape" over my incisions, removed the gauze from my drain and told me all looked good!  He went over my food diary and said I was doing pretty good, that I would benefit from more protein shakes, but overall seems okay.

He told me I can begin introducing new foods that are more solid - but meats might still need to be pureed... Any suggestions on what to try first?  I am wanting chili's grilled shrimp... any thoughts?

The best part - I lost 39.2 lbs since my pre-op class on March 9th!

WOO-HOO!!!!! So that's almost 40 pounds in 23 days!!  HOLY CANNOLI!!!

I did and still do a lot of shrimp - just remember to chew it REALLY well - you might even want to dip it in salsa to lubricate it.  Be REALLLLLLLY careful, please!!!  If you get food stuck, you're going to be making all sorts of deals with God!!!

Good luck & hugs!!!

Tia

Oh Angie! what a wonderful report! I am so happy for you! Everyone is different with the solid food. I agree with Tia, take it very slow. Not only should you chew it well, but give yourself some time in between bites to see how it feels going down. The first more sold things I ate were eggs and tuna and crab. Chicken came later with mixed results. I did not try shrimp for a long time because I had a friend who had a very difficult time with it in the beginning. When I did try it, I had no issues.

Again, congratulations! As good as you feel right now, it will get even better !

I can now report that I went out to eat, and survived without incident :)

I admit, I just ordered veg beef soup, but it was good, the veggies were soft, meat was tender and juicy so I decided that was a better option that the egg white omelet since I have had scrambled eggs already...

Was this a good first option?  It sat well...

Yes, the moisture level of the soup helped a lot with this. I stayed away from beef completely in the beginning because I was advised to by my nut. It can be sinewy and hard to break down. But every practice is a little different. I am guessing that the beef segments were small, besides being tender from cooking in broth.

I am glad it went well for you.
