April -
I sympathize with you because I lost a lot of hair, too - right around the same time post-op as you, too. Don't worry, you WON'T go bald.
My doctor said it was lack of protein that causes it; however, I have to disagree because at least for the first 9 months, I was the MOST compliant wls patient you could find - protein first and lots of it, and I STILL lost my hair. There are many schools of thought - lack of protein, the surgery itself, anesthesia, etc. None of which will make you feel better, especially as you see more and more come out.
It will stop - mine last about 3-4 months and then stopped, and it's better now than it ever was; I had really thin/fine hair pre-op, so even a little made a big difference.
As far as products, I discovered the Pantene Restoratives line, which was great, and I've since stuck with Pantene, but switched over to the Moisture Renewal formula.
Hang in there, I swear it's only temporary.

April,
I'm too experiencing a good bit of hair loss right now too. From day one I've always gotten in adequate protein. My NUT said that the stress that the surgery places on our bodies is generally the cause of the hair loss. I'm always looking for ways to get in more protein so I've been trying to add a good high protein snack at night........tuna and cheese melt (15g), string cheese and trail mix (12g), scrambled egg and cheese (13g). Adding this snack seems obvious but I think i got myself stuck in a "Edy's NSA ice cream" rut that I overlooked other nighttime snack options.
Hang in there with the hair loss!
