A Proper Introduction...

CeCe,

Congrats on your surgery and thanks for your well wishes.

I have a husband and 3 kids...I have already learned not to bring too much of anything in my house...lol Diet, WL, it doesn't matter. I bring something home and EVERYBODY wants to "try" it til its gone so I am keeping things down to a bare minimum until the last minute. Plus the protein (while I know is necessary) is not on my top ten lists of favorites so I am still doing samples until I find something I think I can live with.

Thanks again!

Welcome and good luck on the 10th!  Have a you tried protein powders yet or the ready made drinks.  Like CeCe said - your tastes change after surgery and suddenly 3 months later what you thought was da bomb last month suddenly doesn't taste so good.  So, don't be buying $60 tubs of powder that you may not like.  I've been using the same powders since about month 2 and haven't changed that...
I took my ipod with me, my own pillow, and my cell phone.
When i wasn't sleeping i was walking!  So, while I thinkI brought a book I never looked at it.  I also had a picture of my son so i could see him around the clock ;-)
I wore the same sweat pants home that I wore to the hospital.
Peace
E

Hey E!

If I didn't know any better I would say you were talking to my husband because your list is just about all my husband says I can take with me. Including wearing home what I go in...lol The only difference is the jury is still out on taking pics of the brats. I think I will be treating the 24 hours I get to spend away from them as a vacation of sorts...lol

Like I said to CeCe...I am not a huge fan of protein so I am still doing samples.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Hi Tanya.  I too had the Lap Band.  I have been on and off of this board a lot.   I chime in once and a blue moon.  They people here are great.   There was not much needed after surgery.  I do see that a pillow and chap-stick was suggested.  That is a must.  I also made sure I had a heating pad.  That was a big help to me.

I made sure to load up on the s/f drink mixes, clear broth, water, s/f jello, s/f pudding, protein shakes, (I have a powdered one that is great) etc.   The different doc have you doing things slightly differently so be sure to follow their rules and do not be afraid to contact the NUT if you have questions.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery and keep us posted.

Whom ever said that people who have WLS are taking the easy way out, have never had this experience.  This is a journey and a major challenge.  Step by step I am striving to make it as a loser!!

Thank you Julie!

I went into this process pretty informed about the surgery and knowing this was the right decision for me. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Also, I'm sure you have seen the posts about the support group that meets at the library in Crofton. It is a great group that offers a lot of information. I attend the meetings when they fit into my schedule.  I will actually be at the meeting tonight from 6-8...please try to come out and join us.

Take care and best of luck to you on this journey.
