she told me ABG testing hurt.  it did not.

just got back from St. Agnes Pulmonary Lab.

seems i breathe just fine.

the ABG did NOT hurt.  they did it in the crook of my arm.  NO big deal.
all my numbers were perfect.

my 6 minute walk was hysterical.  I was booking up and back (and i had already done 1 mile at work before i got there) and about 1/2 through i had to pee.  BADLY.  I toughed it out.

they were amazed at how fast I was moving.

Brian also said it did not hurt.  then he has to breathe in and out of the machine in various ways for nearly 30 minutes.

btw his ABG showed his  Oxygen to be low at 77%  anyone have any info on this?

O M G!!!  I've been on this board for almost 4 years and my secret is finally out!!!

I LIE!!!  And I'm all fake and fluff, too!!!

I've NEVER heard of the ABG being taken from the crook of the arm, but hey, if it didn't hurt and they got what they needed - have at it, baby!!!

I'm glad this is one more thing down for you guys!!!  Don't have any info on the 0-2....perhaps my fave resident nurse, Ellen, will see this and chime in!!

Thanks for outting me, Nessa!!!

Glad the tests went OK. My problem with the ABG is that the technician could not get it. Seems my veins jump around. She finally got someone from ICU to come and get it. They got it from my wrist as I recall. The only thing about the walk was that I was all wired up and had to walk through the busiest corridors with this get up on! I always felt like I stood out in a crowd anyway. This certainly did not help! But, truly it was OK for me too.

Debbie,

she had a very very hard time finding brian's artery.  they are rather deep in his body.

they were commenting that he was one of the rare cases that DVR ordered a full work up on.  seems most of his pateints do the walk test.  the corridor for me was empty and all I had one one small box to carry.

OH Tia baby ya know I luvs ya!

seems that it's going to hurt more at the wrist.  but the tech told me it's better to do it in the crook of the arm for women as we are bonier at the wrist.

IF you ever have to have it again I recommend Diane at ST. Agnes Pulmonary!  OMG she rocked.

Nessa,

You were very lucky!!! I went to St Agnes Pulmonary Lab, and although they are the nicest people you ever wanna meet.....I got stuck 4 times. Once in my arm and 3 times in my wrist. And they had to dig around. My hurt like H%$. I made it but if given the choice I will pass on having it again. LOL. My oxygen dropped into the low 80's and DVR didn't haave a problem with it but my pulmonologist is sending me for another test. I am going Monday. I will let you know.

WOW I guess I'm lucky.

I am sure bri will test positive for Sleep Apnea on April 10th and on to a CPAP for him and that will help his O2 level.

Nessa glad it didnt hurt. I have sleep apnea and my o2 was low but has since increased since on cpap. I think normal o2 is 90%. I remember my mom at lung doc and he did pulse ox and hers was 83% he didnt like that and said her norm should be 89 to90. She was then put on oxygen at night at 2 liters... Hope it all works out......Julie
